A Principal Components Analysis of the Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children (K-ABC): Implications for the Test Results of Children with Learning Disabilities.

A learning disability index (LDI) for the assessment of intellectual deficits on the K-ABC is described. The population parameters of this index allows for assessment of the abnormality of the LDI in the individual case, as well as for evaluation of statistical significance of any change in the LDI from test to retest. Four components of reading speed were identified, and a measure of the first component, reading speed of known vocabulary, was investigated on a mixed sample of 84 boys (6 to 14 years old), which included a high proportion of retarded readers. (Author/GW)
