Piotrowski, Chris; Dunham, Frances Y. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
Research on the semantic differential technique has provided evidence for variance in Osgood's formulation of dimensions of connotative meaning. Retest data based on Piotrowski's original sample is reported. Results indicate support for stability and consistency of the Evaluation dimension. Moderate consistency was found in scales comprising the…

Sherry, David L.; Piotrowski, Chris – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1986
The consistency of factor structure of Osgood's semantic differential was examined in three different adult samples, aged 18 to 87. Munson, J. Michael; McQuarrie, Edward F. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
A shortened version of Zaichkowsky's 20-item Personal Involvement Inventory was created, removing four items which might be difficult to understand for noncollege-educated populations. The 16-item modified version had acceptable internal consistency; test-retest reliability; and factorial and predictive validity. (Author/GDC)

Yonker, Robert J.; And Others – 1974
This study developed a semantic differential (SD) instrument to measure self-concept that was not influenced by social desirability. An alpha factor analysis of 53 SD scales produced five interpretable factors for the females and five interpretable factors for the males. A subsequent investigation of the convergent validity of each of the factors…

Elsworth, Gerald R.; Coulter, Frank – 1977
This monograph reports the development of a semantic differential designed to measure professional self perception in student teachers. Seven scales were identified by factor analysis of the responses of 396 student teachers to 56 adjectival pairs used to rate the concepts "Myself,""Myself as I would like to be,""Myself as…

Nyberg, V. R.; Clarke, S. C. T. – 1979
A five-point school subjects attitude scale, based on the semantic differential technique, was developed after two rounds of factor analysis; it contained 24 bipolar adjectives, each representing one of three factors: evaluation, usefulness, and difficulty. The scale was administered to Alberta (Canada) students in grades 5 and 8, who were…
