Peer reviewedLowman, Rodney L.; Schurman, Susan J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1982
The psychometric properties of a revised version of Holland's Vocational Preference Inventory were assessed using federal government employees. Factor analyses, interscale correlations, measures of internal consistency, and criterion group profiles are presented. Evidence was supportive of the validity of the revised form. (Author/BW)

Peer reviewedDavis, Gary A.; Rimm, Sylvia – Journal of Creative Behavior, 1982
Validation studies of the initial group inventory for finding interests (GIFFI) I and II were carried out with 1,024 students (grades 6-12). Internal consistency, reliability, and validity of the scales, which measure personality and biographical characteristics associated with creativity were substantiated. (CL)

Peer reviewedTobin, Kenneth G.; Capie, William – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1981
The Test of Logical Thinking was designed to measure five modes of formal reasoning: controlling variables, proportional reasoning, combinatorial reasoning, probabilistic reasoning, and correlational reasoning. Analysis of data from students, grades 6-16 indicated high test reliability and confirmed that the test measures one underlying dimension,…

Peer reviewedFranklin, Melvin R., Jr.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1981
Results indicated that the Piers-Harris Children's Self Concept Scale demonstrates both convergent and discriminant validity in an assessment of a relatively stable and internally consistent construct. (Author/BW)
Descriptors: Elementary Secondary Education, Grade 4, Grade 7, Self Concept Measures
Peer reviewedParish, Thomas S.; Rankin, Charles I. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1982
The Nonsexist Personal Attribute Inventory for Children (NPAIC) was administered along with the Piers-Harris scale to children in fifth through eighth grade. A correlation of .49 was found between the two scales. The NPAIC was found to be a reliable, valid self-concept scale for females and males. (Author/GK)
Descriptors: Elementary Secondary Education, Self Concept Measures, Sex Bias, Test Reliability
Peer reviewedMacPhillamy, Douglas J.; Lewinsohn, Peter M. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1982
Found good to excellent stability for the eight most used scales of the Pleasant Events Schedule across time periods of one, two, and three months. Analyses showed that the items and scales generally possess acceptable levels of reliability and concurrent, predictive, and construct validity. (Author/RC)
Descriptors: Correlation, Measures (Individuals), Peer Evaluation, Self Evaluation (Individuals)
Stewart, Bruce L. – New Directions for Testing and Measurement, 1980
The reliability and validity of chance-level scores should be investigated. Only a careful examination of such scores can suggest whether they are likely to reflect random responding or to represent a reasonable estimate of an examinee's ability. (Author/RL)
Descriptors: Compensatory Education, Elementary Secondary Education, Evaluation Methods, Guessing (Tests)
Raffeld, Paul – New Directions for Testing and Measurement, 1980
Students who meet with repeated failure at the beginning of a test are likely to lose motivation to continue to interact with each item. Therefore, it seems better to recommend testing out-of-level for those students scoring at or below the chance score mean. (RL)
Descriptors: Compensatory Education, Elementary Secondary Education, Guessing (Tests), Scoring
Peer reviewedWhite, Charles S. – Theory and Research in Social Education, 1982
Describes a study which tested the reliability and validity of the Barth-Shermis Social Studies Preference Scale as a measure of teaching orientations with respect to Barth and Shermis' three traditions. Subjects were 190 secondary social studies teachers. (AM)

Eggert, Dietrich – Exceptional Child, 1982
The Test Battery for Mentally Handicapped Children (TBGB) was developed for the psychological diagnosis of mentally handicapped children in West Germany to provide diagnostic information relevant to educational programing. Reliablity coefficients were completed, tests of validity were undertaken, and the utility of the TBGB for differential…

Peer reviewedAustin, Joe Dan – Psychometrika, 1981
On distractor-identification tests students mark as many distractors as possible on each test item. A grading scale is developed for this type testing. The score is optimal in that it yields an unbiased estimate of the student's score as if no guessing had occurred. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Guessing (Tests), Item Analysis, Measurement Techniques, Scoring Formulas
Peer reviewedSilverstein, A. B.; And Others – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1981
Howard's Maze test and Maw and Maw's Which-to-Discuss test were individually administered to 25 educable mentally retarded junior high school students.
