El-Zahhar, Nabil; Hocevar, Dennis – 1984
With the availability of so many definitions of and assessment devices for anxiety, researchers have stressed that the dimensionality of anxiety needs further investigation. To examine the dimensionality of three components of anxiety (trait anxiety, arousability, and neuroticism) two studies were conducted. In the first study, 123 high school…

Oakland, Thomas; And Others – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1990
To identify classroom behaviors that differentiate primary-level students with learning disabilities (LD) from their nondisabled peers, two scales of 83 items each were devised and piloted. Two subscales and 18 individual items were found to discriminate students later classified as LD and those referred but not subsequently classified as LD.…

Whiffen, Valerie E.; And Others – Child Abuse & Neglect: The International Journal, 1997
This study examined the discriminant validity of the Trauma Symptom Checklist (TSC-40), developed to assess the impact of a history of sexual victimization, with a clinical sample of 103 men and 79 women. A history of child sexual abuse was associated with both high symptom levels and with elevation on the trauma subscale of the TSC-40. (Author/DB)

Oswald, Donald P.; Volkmar, Fred R. – Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 1991
Autism Behavior Checklists were completed for 52 autistic individuals (ages 2-31) and 62 nonautistic individuals, and data were analyzed using signal detection methodology. A single item (looks "through" people) combined with one of five other items discriminated as well as the sum scores, and further combinations did not improve…

Wadden, Norma P. K.; And Others – Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 1991
The Autism Behavior Checklist was completed for 67 autistic and 56 mentally retarded and learning-disabled children (ages 6-15). The checklist was effective in classifying children when using either the full scale or only the more highly weighted items. Results did not support a single unidimensional scale or subdividing the checklist into five…

Balboni, Giulia; Pedrabissi, Luigi; Molteni, Massimo; Villa, Susanna – American Journal on Mental Retardation, 2001
Utility of the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales-Expanded Form to discriminate among areas of adaptive behavior was substantiated by comparing profiles of scores obtained by 113 individuals with mental retardation and either a communication, social behavior, or motor disorder. Results support the use of the Vineland Scales in ecological evaluation…
