Prediger, Dale J. – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1984
Focuses on anomalies in the O'Neil (1980) data on the factor structure of the Career Factor Checklist. Charges that critical errors compromise the conclusions regarding CFC valididty, and notes errors in analyses based on CFC scores. (JAC)
Descriptors: Factor Structure, Position Papers, Research Problems, Test Validity

Brennan, Robert L.; Prediger, Dale J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1981
This paper considers some appropriate and inappropriate uses of coefficient kappa and alternative kappa-like statistics. Discussion is restricted to the descriptive characteristics of these statistics for measuring agreement with categorical data in studies of reliability and validity. (Author)
Descriptors: Classification, Error of Measurement, Mathematical Models, Test Reliability

Prediger, Dale J. – Career Development Quarterly, 1987
Conducted study to examine validity of Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Form 14 (ASVAB-14) composites and validity of new ASVAB-14 Job Cluster Scales developed by American College Testing Program for use in computer-based career planning system, DISCOVER. Found ASVAB-14 had serious limitations for career counseling. (NB)

Prediger, Dale J.; Fought, Louise – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1972
This article presents the experience of an area vocational school to illustrate how counselors, with the help of a computer, can obtain locally validated test information useful in vocational counseling. (Author)

Lamb, Richard R.; Prediger, Dale J. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1979
Describes two studies comparing the criterion-related validity of sex-balanced ("unisex") interest inventory scales. Results indicate that psychometrically sound interest inventories can be constructed with sex-balanced items, and counselors may use inventories which provide sex-balanced score reports without sacrificing validity.…

Prediger, Dale J. – 1976
Two approaches to interest inventory validation are considered. The choice between the two depends on the use being validated. The first approach assumes that interest inventories are to be used in predicting which occupations counselees will enter or prefer. The second assumes that interest inventories are to used in suggesting occupations for…

Prediger, Dale J.; Brandt, William E. – Career Development Quarterly, 1991
Six interest measures and 15 ability measures were administered to 2,101 high school seniors in 19 vocational-technical schools. Computer-based score interpretation would have referred approximately 80 percent of satisfied/successful students to job cluster containing vocational program they completed. Results indicated that computer-based…

Prediger, Dale J. – Vocational Guidance Quarterly, 1981
Examined validity data for 50 criterion groups (N=9,256) to determine which reporting procedure, i.e., raw scores or normed scores, provided better agreement between the occupations pursued by the criterion group members and their predominant interests. Analyses suggested that normed scores were more valid than raw scores. (RC)
Descriptors: Comparative Analysis, Females, Interest Inventories, Norms
Prediger, Dale J. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1976
The appropriateness of raw score reports of human traits is questioned, especially in light of the support provided for Holland's theory by normed scores and the stereotypic career options suggested to males and females by raw scores. (Author)

Prediger, Dale J.; Lamb, Richard R. – Journal of College Student Personnel, 1981
Sex-restrictive and sex-balanced interest scores obtained before college were compared for college seniors using the Holland interest/personality types as criteria. Results suggest that sex-balanced interest scores are more valid than sex-restrictive scores across four years of college. Implications for practitioners are noted. (Author)
Descriptors: Career Counseling, College Students, Higher Education, Interest Inventories

Prediger, Dale J.; Johnson, Richard W. – 1979
Recent research is summarized on interest assessment procedures as it bears on the issue of sex restrictiveness. Studies documenting sex restrictiveness in widely used interest inventories are cited, and alternatives to sex-restrictive interest assessment are suggested. Separate consideration is given to basic interest scales and to occupational…

Lamb, Richard R.; Prediger, Dale J. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1980
The construct validity of vocational interest test scores was examined by finding the interest profiles of 15,447 college students in 51 majors. Standard scores based on same-sex norms were found to be more valid on this criterion than were raw scores. (CTM)
Descriptors: Higher Education, Interest Inventories, Raw Scores, Sex Bias
Prediger, Dale J.; Cole, Nancy S. – 1975
Methods for reporting vocational interests which do and do not reflect sex-role stereotypes are examined. Interest inventory validation procedures based on the prediction of occupational preference and group membership are shown to favor inventories providing scores that reflect past sex-role stereotypes and current employment inequities.…

Prediger, Dale J.; Hanson, Gary R. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1978
Data on the reliability and validity of the sex-valances scales are summarized along with data from previous research on sex-balanced scales and reporting procedures. Data include that sex differences currently found in interest inventory scores may simply be an unfortunate legacy from an era that took traditional sex roles for granted. (Author)
