Stewart, Kenneth D.; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1971
Descriptors: Intelligence Tests, Test Validity

Retzlaff, Paul; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1986
Adults were administered the Shipley Institute of Living Scale (SILS) and the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised (WAIS-R) as a validation study of previously published procedures for estimating WAIS-R Full Scale intelligence quotients from SILS Vocabulary and Abstraction Scores. Correlations were low and prediction was poor. Partial support…

Plante, Thomas G.; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
Compared Activity Vector Analysis (AVA) to the Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire (16PF) in 114 employed adults. Examination of descriptions of dimensions defined by obtained structure vectors associated with each instrument based on the canonical correlation linear composites suggested construct validity for the AVA relative to the 16PF…

Plante, Thomas G.; Goldfarb, Lori A. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1984
Administered the Activity Vector Analysis (AVA) and the Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire (16PF) (N=144 adults) to examine the concurrent validity of the AVA. Results supported the validity of the AVA's social adjustment measure. (LLL)

Silverstein, A. B. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
Reports the validities and reliabilities of two short forms of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (Revised) (Vocabulary and Block Design, and Arithmetic and Picture Arrangement) for each of nine age groups, together with standard errors of estimate and measurement. Results support the use of these forms for their intended purpose. (BH)
Descriptors: Age Differences, Test Reliability, Test Validity

Feingold, Alan – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1983
Demonstrated that equally weighting Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale subtests that differ in validity reduces potential validity. Concluded that vocabulary and information in concert have greater validity than either subtest by itself and that the addition of a third test will not result in a consistent increase in validity. (LLL)
Descriptors: Intelligence Tests, Screening Tests, Test Validity

Lueger, Robert J. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1983
Compared the standard MMPI and MMPI-168 scores of 90 male delinquent adolescents. Raw score and T-score correlations were high and within acceptable limits, which indicates that MMPI-168 scores are useful with delinquent adolescents. However, two-point codetypes derived from standard MMPIs and MMPI-168s were in agreement less than half the time.…

Klett, William G.; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1986
Compared the abilities of the most recent editions of the Henmon-Nelson and the Slosson tests to estimate Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (Revised) scaled scores and intelligence quotients. The Henmon-Nelson's validity coefficients were higher than their counterparts for the Slosson, but the Slosson had a higher ceiling and a lower floor.…

Lubin, Bernard; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
Bilingual subjects (N=61) completed the three forms of the Depression Adjective Check Lists (DACL), each of which was printed half in Spanish and half in English. No significant effects were found either for language or sex of subject. Findings supported use of DACL Spanish version with Spanish-speaking subjects. (NRB)
Descriptors: Bilingualism, English, Spanish, Test Reliability

Klanderman, John; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
Elementary school children (N=41) were administered Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children (K-ABC), Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R), and Stanford-Binet. Analyses appeared to support the viability of the K-ABC as measure of the properties of mental functioning that are similar to those measured by WISC-R and…

Vance, Booney; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
Explored the relationship between the Revised Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test (PPVT-R) and the Wide Range Achievement Test (WRAT) among 37 children referred for special education services. Results indicated the PPVT-R standard score correlated positively and significantly with the WRAT reading standard score. The concurrent validity of the PPVT-R…

Beck, Aaron, T.; Steer, Robert A. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1984
Compared versions of the Beck Depression Inventory in psychiatric patients. The alpha coefficient for 598 inpatients and outpatients on the 1961 version was .88, and the alpha coefficient for 248 outpatients on the 1978 version was .86. Concluded that the internal consistencies of both versions were comparable. (JAC)
Descriptors: Depression (Psychology), Patients, Psychiatric Services, Test Validity

Chu, Cathy Ruey Ling; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1984
Presented data on the translation and on the reliability and concurrent validity of the Chinese version of the Depression Adjective Check Lists (DACL). Reliability and validity coefficients are significant and of sufficient magnitude to warrant their use in research (N=37).(Author)
Descriptors: Chinese, Foreign Countries, Test Reliability, Test Validity

Donham, Greg W.; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1984
Cross-validated findings of Ludenia, et al. (1984) from two independent but similar samples of alcoholic inpatients (N=219) with the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) Form Y. Results indicated that the STAI (Form Y) is a stable instrument across time when used to assess anxiety in an alcoholic population. (LLL)
Descriptors: Alcoholism, Anxiety, Patients, Personality Assessment

Holmes, Cooper B.; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1984
Replied to Hays and Stacy's critique of an article by Holmes, Dungan and McLaughlin in which the validity of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory alcoholism scales was questioned. Presents support for the original conclusions and comments on Hays and Stacy's reanalysis. (JAC)
Descriptors: Alcoholism, Statistical Analysis, Test Interpretation, Test Validity
