Kroger, Rolf O. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1974
This study proposes a social-psychological hypothesis of test faking which postulates that faking involves the enacting of a social role appropriate to the given testing situation. Subtle manipulations of the test-taking environment, designed to induce subjects to adopt given social roles, produced substantial role-specific changes in test scores.…

Lanning, Wayne L.; Lemons, Stephen L. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1974
The Barrett-Lennard Relationship Inventory, an instrument used to measure the empathic understanding, level of regard, congruence, and unconditionality of regard, is studied using a rotated principal-components analysis of the Inventory's subtests to ascertain whether it measures one general factor or four separate relationship aspects. Holland, John L.; Nafziger, Dean H. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1975
The scales of the Self-Directed Search (SDS) correlate with the scales of the Kuder, the Thurstone Temperament Schedule, the Bennett Mechanical Comprehension Test, and the Minnesota Paper Form Board in predictable ways across three small samples of high school students. The results support the validity of the SDS. (Author)

Donlon, Thomas F.; And Others – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1979
Many expectations concerning performance on educational and psychological tests are sex-stereotyped. Females, for example, are expected to do better on verbal tests, while males are expected to do better on mathematical tests. These expectations are being reevaluated in terms of the cultural influences that may underlie them. (Author)
Descriptors: Item Analysis, Research Projects, Sex Discrimination, Sex Stereotypes
Hansen, Jo-Ida C. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1978
Three age groups in six occupational samples were tested on the SCII and their scale scores were examined for significant differences. Data indicates that interests generally are not different for people of different ages in the same occupation. (Author)
Descriptors: Age Differences, Interest Inventories, Research Projects, Test Construction
Hall, Bruce W.; And Others – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1974
The research examines the hypothesis that predictive validity will be greater for a test given under stress instructions than for a test given under relax instructions. (Author)

Borgen, Fred H.; Harper, Gregory T. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1973
Validity of the SVIB for predicting career choice at the end of college was studied with able black and white men who were winners of National Achievement and National Merit Scholarships in 1966. Membership in career groups was predicted at least as well for these able blacks as it was for the whites. (Author)

Feldstein, JoAnn Cohen; Gladstein, Gerald A. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1980
Discussed four measures of empathy: Truax's Accurate Empathy Scale; Carkhuff's Empathic Understanding Scale; Barrett-Lennard's Relationship Inventory; and Truax's Relationship Inventory. Roger's concepts served as evaluative criteria. None met all criteria. Further evidence is needed of these scales' construct validities. Measures are valid if…

Harris, Robert M., Jr.; Salomone, Paul R. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1981
Integrates a review of Rotter's theory with an analysis of the design and development of locus of control scales, and tests the reliability and validity of an abbreviated version of Rotter's Locus of Control Scale which provides practitioners with an instrument less confusing than other locus of control scales. (Author)
Descriptors: Correlation, Counseling Effectiveness, Locus of Control, Rating Scales
Hollifield, John H. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1974

Goldman, Leo – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1972
Suggestions for change include development of new kinds of tests, higher standards for both tests and test users, and collaboration by test authors, publishers, and counselors within AMEG in an effort to prevent a complete dissolution of the marriage between tests and the counseling process. (Author)
Descriptors: Counseling, Counselor Qualifications, Prediction, Test Results
Hyman, Ruth Bernstein – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1979
After a brief summary of evidence for the Personal Orientation Inventory (POI) as a measure of self-actualization, this article presents such a systematic summary for the inner-direction and time-competence scales; it should prove valuable for decision making. (Author)
Descriptors: Adults, Diagnostic Tests, Research Methodology, Self Actualization
Baker, Stanley B.; Slakter, Malcolm J. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1975
The investigations reported in this article serve a dual purpose. First, validity and reliability data relative to the School Counselor Attitude Inventory (SCAI) are presented for the users of that instrument. Secondly, those who share an interest in tests and measurement may find the presentation instructive. (Author)
