Compared the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test (PPVT) and the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test-Revised (PPVT-R) for 31 gifted children. The sample mean for the PPVT-R was significantly lower than for the PPVT. Additionally, the PPVT and PPVT-R correlated to a significant degree, yielding a standard score correlation coefficient of .83. (Author)

In an attempt to reinforce the directive role of evidence in current arguments over test coaching, this chapter summarizes research findings from studies of coaching for the Scholastic Aptitude Test in the context of a conceptual analysis of the meaning and likely import of the coachability of such ability tests. Occupational interest scales and homogeneous scales were developed and compared on a sample of 3,072 Air Force personnel in a double cross-validation design. Results indicated that the occupational scales were slightly superior in correctly classifying satisified personnel v people in general. (Author/JKS)

A series of behavioral expectation scale applications were analyzed in an attempt to point out an appropriate number of dimensions to be included in such studies. Results reflected the problems of dimension interdependence when the number of dimensions exceeds nine. (Author/JKS)

Since competency-based instruction is based on the testing process, this study suggests that careful attention to the construction of tests can produce a reliable, valid measure. The next steps to be taken include developing larger banks of test items, increasingly accurate tests, and instruction to meet specified objectives of the curriculum.…

A review of the technical data available on the 1972 norms edition of the Stanford-Binet demonstrates how inadequate these data are. The Stanford-Binet should not continue to be used in important decision making processes unless this weakness is corrected. (Author)

Learning disabled children performed lower than general education children on all five major scale indexes. A similar amount of scatter was present in the profiles of learning disabled and general education children. No specific pattern of scale indexes could be determined as typical for learning disabled children. (Author)

Results for employment tests indicated that differential validity occurs no more frequently than would be expected on the basis of chance plus the operation of various statistical artifacts. Similar results were obtained on educational tests. Tests are neither differentially valid for, nor unfair to, Hispanics. (Author)
