Frary, Robert B. – Educ Psychol Meas, 1969
Descriptors: Guessing (Tests), Measurement Techniques, Multiple Choice Tests, Scoring
Peer reviewedGibbs, John C.; And Others – Child Development, 1982
A group-administerable version of Kohlberg's Moral Judgment Interview (MJI) was psychometrically evaluated. Results showed that the Sociomoral Reflection Measure has acceptable concurrent validity with the MJI as well as high levels of construct validity and reliability. (Author/MP)
Descriptors: Adults, Children, College Students, Measures (Individuals)
Peer reviewedSmith, Kathryn J.; Anderson, Jean L. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1982
The Individual Supervisory Conference Rating Scale (ISCRS) was developed and validated to provide a conference rating instrument for researchers, supervisors, and supervisees in speech-language pathology. Procedures to determine both reliability and validity of the scale were implemented throughout the development process. (Author)
Descriptors: Rating Scales, Speech Pathology, Supervisor Qualifications, Supervisory Training
Peer reviewedWilliams, Richard H.; Zimmerman, Donald W. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1982
A mathematical link between test reliability and test validity is derived, taking into account the correlation between error scores on a test and error scores on a criterion measure. When this correlation is positive, the "paradoxical" nonmonotonic relation between test reliability and test validity occurs universally. (Author/BW)
Descriptors: Correlation, Error of Measurement, Mathematical Models, Test Reliability
Peer reviewedRosenthal, Doreen A.; And Others – Journal of Youth and Adolescence, 1981
A new inventory for examining the first six of Erikson's psychosocial stages is described. It is concluded that the Erikson Psychosocial Stage Inventory (EPSI), a self-report questionnaire, is a useful measure for researchers interested in development from early adolescence and in mapping changes as a function of life events. (Author/GK)
Descriptors: Adolescent Development, Measures (Individuals), Secondary Education, Test Construction
Peer reviewedTinsley, Howard E. A.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1981
Two procedures for scoring the Recreation Experience Preference scales were investigated using data obtained from respondents engaged in outdoor recreational activities. Both procedures yielded acceptable levels of reliability and concurrent validity. When time is unimportant, the scale score strategy is preferred over the domain score strategy.…
Descriptors: Methods, Outdoor Activities, Participant Satisfaction, Recreational Activities
Peer reviewedHiscock, Merrill – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1978
Examined imagery questionnaires and addressed issues of reliability, agreement among questionnaires, social desirability, and construct validity. The Betts and Gordon scales and the Paivio Individual Differences Questionnaire were examined. Reliability of the Paivio inventory was satisfactory and equivalent to other imagery questionnaires. Imagery…
Descriptors: Imagery, Males, Measurement, Questionnaires
Peer reviewedFeldhusen, John F.; Kolloff, Margaret Britton – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1981
The purpose of this research was to develop a self-concept scale for gifted students which focused on gifted children's talents and abilities and associated or related behaviors. Preliminary development analyses for 224 gifted girls and 188 boys in Grades 3 through 6 indicate promising reliability and possibly good validity. (Author/SJL)
Descriptors: Gifted, Intermediate Grades, Self Concept Measures, Test Construction
Peer reviewedBerk, Ronald A. – Journal for Special Educators, 1981
The strengths of the scales were concentrated in the areas of domain and construct validity, weaknesses in the areas of discriminant validity, interobserver reliability, and decision-making reliability. (DB)
Descriptors: Adjustment (to Environment), Behavior Rating Scales, Mental Retardation, Test Reliability
Nitko, Anthony J. – New Directions for Testing and Measurement, 1980
Criterion-referencing is a way to enhance the interpretation of test scores by referencing them to well-defined behavior domains. Behavior domains may be ordered or unordered; several varieties of criterion-referenced tests within each of these types are discussed. (Author/RL)
Descriptors: Classification, Criterion Referenced Tests, Scaling, Scores
Harris, Robert M., Jr.; Salomone, Paul R. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1981
Integrates a review of Rotter's theory with an analysis of the design and development of locus of control scales, and tests the reliability and validity of an abbreviated version of Rotter's Locus of Control Scale which provides practitioners with an instrument less confusing than other locus of control scales. (Author)
Descriptors: Correlation, Counseling Effectiveness, Locus of Control, Rating Scales
Peer reviewedNowicki, Stephen, Jr.; Duke, Marshall – Developmental Psychology, 1979
The test developer's reply to Herzberger et al.'s allegation that the internal consistency of the Preschool and Primary Nowicki-Strickland Internal-External Control Scale is not sufficiently high to justify the scale's use. (CM)
Descriptors: Children, Locus of Control, Test Bias, Test Construction
Peer reviewedPage, Roger; Bode, James – Journal of Educational Research, 1979
College students instructed to "fake good" on a test of moral reasoning were unable to do so, but they could lower their scores significantly when directed to. (Editor)
Descriptors: Abstract Reasoning, Cheating, Ethics, Moral Values
Peer reviewedCohen, S. Alan – Reading World, 1977
Reports preliminary findings of a study (in progress) on the statistical and content validity of eight reading achievement tests. (JM)
Descriptors: Reading Achievement, Reading Research, Reading Tests, Standardized Tests
Peer reviewedRoberto, Anthony J.; Finucane, Margaret – Communication Quarterly, 1997
Finds the internal consistency and temporal stability of the Adolescent Argumentativeness Scale and the Adolescent Verbal Aggressiveness Scale are reliable when used to assess these predispositions in adolescent populations, and that they demonstrated satisfactory face, concurrent, convergent, and discriminant validity. Indicates that, unlike…
