Walker, Richard N. – Early Childhood Research Quarterly, 1992
A test battery that corresponded to the Gesell Developmental Assessment (GDA) was given to 400 4-6 year olds. A truncated version of the GDA had moderate reliability and predictive power. Experienced judges sometimes differed in their assessments of a child's developmental level and recommendations for grade placement. (GLR)

House, J. Daniel; Keeley, Edward J. – 1993
Although the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) is used extensively as an admissions test for graduate programs, relatively little research has examined the validity of the MAT for predicting subsequent graduate student achievement and no published studies have examined differential prediction of student performance from MAT scores. There were two…

Morgan, Rick – 1989
Since 1964, colleges have been sending data to the College Board Validity Study Service to allow determination of the degree to which measures used in admissions predict college performance. Beginning in the early 1970s and continuing into the mid 1970s, the observed average correlations of Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores with freshman…

Westfall, Philip Jean-Louis; D'Costa, Ayres G. – 1987
This study, based on the Rasch model, used R. M. Smith's (1986) classification of measurement disturbances to assess the Rasch model approach to error control and statistical prediction. Partitioning the error component into a person component, an item-person interaction component, and a random unexplained error component has the net effect of…

Boldt, Robert F. – 1986
This study investigated whether or not the validity of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) is both higher and less variable across colleges than it appears to be. Data from 99 validity studies conducted by the Validity Study Service of the College Board were used. In addition to test validities based on first-year college averages, which were…

Prediger, Dale J.; Swaney, Kyle B. – 1985
This study determined the validity of vocational interest scores for persons with high, medium, and low levels of experience appropriate to their predominant interests. The experiences and interests of a national sample of 1,380 young adults were assessed concurrently with scales paralleling Holland's types. The degree of congruence between…

Lovelace, Terry; Martin, Charles E. – 1984
This study examined how well the scores from the revised National Teacher Examinations (NTE), the American College Test (ACT), cumulative grade point average, personal characteristics, and certification level can predict actual classroom performance, as measured by three instruments from the Teacher Performance Assessment Instruments (TPAI).…

Sawyer, Richard – 1985
Whether adjustments to differential prediction observed among sex, racial/ethnic, or age subgroups in a college-level freshman class could be used to improve grade prediction accuracy for these subgroups in future freshman classes was studied. This study is based on the American College Testing program test scores, high school grades, and college…

Blakemore, Thomas F.; Coker, Charles C. – 1982
A study was conducted (1) to obtain an estimate of the amount of error in prediction that occurs when static measures are used to interpret work-sample performance; (2) to identify a number of dynamic performance measures that reflect learning that might occur on the task; and (3) to compare the predictive accuracy of those measures to that of…

Laing, Joan; Farmer, Merine – 1984
This report summarizes selected information from American College Testing (ACT) Program records (1978-79 through 1982-83) for five groups of ACT Assessment examinees: (1) examinees who indicated that they did not have a disability that might require special services from the college they planned to attend (these examinees tested on national test…

Downey, Ronald G.
Previous research has studied the effects of different methods of item option weighting on the reliability and concurrent and predictive validity of achievement tests. Increases in reliability are generally found, but with mixed results for validity. Several methods of producing option weights, (i.e., Guttman internal and external weights and…

Shantz, Carolyn Uhlinger – 1976
This study seeks evidence for the validity of the concept of egocentrism in children. Three standard egocentrism tests are intercorrelated to determine the degree to which they appear to be measuring a single construct (convergent validity); whether the three tasks intercorrelate more than they do with a theoretically unrelated task (discriminant…

Greenlaw, M. Jean; Moore, David – 1978
A review of literature by reading authorities identified seven criteria necessary for meaningful research about reading readiness tests. These criteria were then used in analysis of 15 research studies dealing with the "Metropolitan Readiness Test" and first grade reading achievement. Five major findings resulted from this analysis:…

Hunter, David R.; And Others – 1977
A battery of seven psychomotor/perceptual tests was administered to two samples of Air Force personnel: officer trainees slated to attend undergraduate navigator training, and enlisted airmen in 30 different career fields. The objective was to determine the validity of the battery for the prediction of success in technical training courses. The…

Educational Testing Service, Princeton, NJ. – 1969
This study reports the results of the cluster analysis and a study of the instruments used in the Comparative Guidance Placement Program as they function in each of 20 curricular group clusters. The battery of tests and questionnaires were administered to approximately 6,000 students enrolled in more than 50 different programs within 23…
