Sex-related differences in achievement were studied in a random sample of 130 schools, using data from the Second International Mathematics Study. No significant differences were found in arithmetic, algebra, and probability and statistics; for geometry and measurement, boys were more successful. (MNS)

A group test of formal thinking was administered to all grade 11 entrants in National High Schools in Papua New Guinea, and readministered two years later. An evaluation of a test-retest policy, which was designed to give students a second chance at each exam in introductory psychology courses, showed that it reduced the test anxiety of approximately 80 percent of the students. Students' scores also improved on retests. (RM)
