van der Ven, A. H. G. S.; And Others – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1989
A new model is presented that explains reaction time fluctuations in prolonged work tasks. The model extends the so-called Poisson-Erlang model and accounts for long-term trend effects in the reaction time curve. The model is consistent with Spearman's hypothesis that inhibition increases during work and decreases during rest. (TJH)

The growth patterns for grade equivalent scores may be more reasonable than those for standard score scales. (SLD)

Cizek, Gregory J.; Rachor, Robert E. – NASSP Bulletin, 1994
Although increased attention to testing has resulted in improved guidelines for measuring skills and interpreting test results, educators are confused about certain testing problems and appropriate ameliorative strategies. Changing from multiple-choice formats to authentic performances will not reform education. Highly valuable outcomes such as…

Gratz, Donald B. – Phi Delta Kappan, 2000
The compelling ideas underlying the standards movement are being distorted by poor implementation and political opportunism. An emerging rebellion, driven by negative testing consequences, is eroding political support.…

Standardized test results are skewed by family socioeconomic status. Until top-down, corporate-style testing is eliminated, genuine reforms like cooperative learning and multi-age classrooms will be doomed.
