Clinical studies suggest that A and B therapist "types" may be associated with variation in the process and outcome of psychotherapy. The results of this study suggest that the kind of counter-transference established in early interviews may be important to the out-come of psychotherapy. The successful therapists in these interviews were more dominant than their unsuccessful counterparts. (Author)

Discusses use of alternate sessions, regularly scheduled meetings without the therapist, in analytic group therapy and proposes that opinions should be derived from a theoretical formulation, not in place of one.
