Kosslyn, Stephen Michael – Cognitive Psychology, 1975
How information is represented in visual images was explored in five experiments where subjects judged whether or not various properties were appropriate for given animals. The results support a constructivist notion of imagery, and the idea that images may act as analogues to percepts. (Author/DEP)

Pashler, Harold – Cognitive Psychology, 1989
How the dual-task interference effects, observed when subjects attempted to simultaneously perform two simple tasks, are related to capacity limitations in perceptual processing of complex visual displays was studied. Results for a total of 110 undergraduates in 6 experiments support a 2-component theory of divided attention. (SLD)

Rips, Lance J. – Cognitive Psychology, 1975
Two models are considered for how people verify explicitly quantified sentences. To test the models, three reaction time experiments required subjects to verify statements quantified by some or all. The results show that some-statements took longer to verify than all-statements. (Author/DEP)

Pelham, Brett W.; And Others – Cognitive Psychology, 1994
Five experiments involving a total of 268 college students indicate that people are especially likely to overinfer quantity or probability from numerosity when they are asked to make inherently difficult judgments, when they are asked to render judgments while performing a concurrent task, and when they are forced to make rapid judgments. (SLD)

Kolers, Paul A. – Cognitive Psychology, 1975
The role of a hypothetical metalinguistic semantic component is assessed and contrasted with the role of a semantic component derived from the very words on the printed page, and this in turn is contrasted with the influence of the graphemic, pattern analyzing component of sentence memory. (Author/DEP)
