Bridging Special Education Services from Secondary to Postsecondary Life: A Case Study of One Early College High School District in South Texas
Bridges, Jeanne M.
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Texas A&M University - Kingsville
Research across the board has focused predominately on postsecondary transition services as they occur, after students with disabilities have left high school and entered the postsecondary realm of education. There has yet to be a study to address the feasibility of combining the important early intervention strategies necessary for success within this population to pre-graduation implementation of the same postsecondary strategies. This exploratory case study, utilizing qualitative research, used in-depth interviews to examine the perceptions of administrators and transitions specialists regarding the challenges facing secondary schools in transitioning students with special needs from high school to postsecondary careers and education. The findings of the study revealed a major theme of the wall to wall, early college high school setting, with supporting themes of visionary leadership, support, advocacy for all, and student self-efficacy.
