Students enrolled in EXTRA, a tutorial program in basic reading and mathematics skills, were compared with non-EXTRA students to measure the program's success. EXTRA achieved success in mathematics tutorials but not in its reading program. Implications of findings are reviewed. (Author/DF)

Bar-Eli, Nurit; Raviv, Amiram – Journal of Educational Research, 1982
In a study, underachieving fifth and sixth graders who were weak in mathematics tutored second graders who were also weak in mathematics, replacing their regular classroom teachers. Results show that both tutors and tutees had significantly improved in mathematics on standard achievement tests. (JN)
