Mental Health and School Adjustment -- Contextual, Psychological Variables and Performance in School Environments. Education and Human Development
Arantzazu Rodríguez-Fernández, Editor; Iker Izar-de-la-Fuente, Editor
IntechOpen
This book is a dissemination of research on mental health and school adjustment approached from a psychoeducational perspective. From this perspective, mental health and/or psychological variables are examined for higher academic performance and better school adjustment. The study of mental health and school adjustment is especially relevant if we want to improve the quality of education and school performance from primary education to university. Thus, the authors have analyzed several aspects, including neuropsychopedagogical training to improve well-being, eating disorders, and the social pressure students face due to the beauty standards in the classroom and how this affects their involvement in school. They also examine gambling addiction in students, the importance of self-concept, and the satisfaction of basic psychological needs for protecting psychological well-being. Additionally, they discuss school burnout and social problem-solving as key factors affecting academic performance. The importance of early detection and monitoring of developmental disorders or even neurodivergent minds with unique talents is also addressed. The book's ultimate goal, and consequently of all its chapters, is clear: to improve variables such as school climate and psychological health, which impacts said performance and school adaptation. It is, therefore, a book intended for teachers or education professionals seeking new scientific knowledge that can be used to improve their work.
