Campbell, Bill W. – Special Libraries, 1978
A chart is given showing external document requests filled by hard copy versus microfiche from January 1976 to January 1977. The main factor contributing to the success of the microfiche program of this aircraft company's library has been getting portable readers into the hands of those engineers most open to the use of film. Burton, Hilary D. – Special Libraries, 1973
A large-scale selective dissemination of information (SDI) system which is in operation at the Agricultural Research Service is described. The unique characteristic of this system is that the users develop and modify their own profiles. The implications of this user-dependent approach for information system planners are discussed. DeVilliers, Ann M.; Schloman, Barbara Frick – Special Libraries, 1973
Experiences with chemistry and biology journals on 16 mm microfilm in a reading room which serves chemistry faculty and graduate students are reviewed. Surveys in 1971 and 1972 indicate that the users have accepted the microfilm as a satisfactory replacement for hardcopy. (11 references) (Author)

Miller, Edward P. – Special Libraries, 1973
A valid means of employing user opinion as a planning tool is developed. Analysis of weighted opinions by statistical methods will provide the library manager with information on which to base decisions for future activity and operations. (3 references) (Author)

Langlois, Dianne C.; Von Schulz, Jeanne V. – Special Libraries, 1973
A survey of the R. E. Gibson Library's journal collection was conducted to determine: (1) which journal titles could be discontinued, (2) which journal holdings could be moved to remote storage, and (3) which journal holdings could be converted to microfilm. (7 references) (Author)

Jones, William G. – Special Libraries, 1973
A simple means of estimating patron use is described. Over a year's time about 100 observations were obtained which were extrapolated to produce estimates of library use by hour, day of week, month, and university term. (Author)

Wender, Ruth W. – Special Libraries, 1979
A noncomputerized study of the journal title usage by the clients of the Extension Division of the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center Library showed that its validity increased in direct proportion to the number of relevant parameters. Such studies should include both numbers of requesters and numbers of requests. (Author)

Wender, Ruth W. – Special Libraries, 1975
Regional Library Services of the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center Library studied its records of journal use to determine which titles were requested most often, which users requested them, and the recency of the requested articles. (LS)

Bank, H. – Special Libraries, 1979
Describes a survey made in 1976 among the users of 35 patent libraries in the member countries of the European Community. Findings present sources of users, frequency of visits, types of users, and specific comments from users, including their willingness to pay for services. (Author/JD)

Ray, Jean M. – Special Libraries, 1978
Analysis of circulation records for maps at a university library show that borrowers are widely distributed throughout many departments of the university, with heaviest use by graduate students for research purposes. Geographical emphasis is on the local area and aerial photographs and topographic maps are the most popular types. (Author)
