Anderson, O. Roger – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1972
Describes a method with data analyzed from two lessons on the quantitative assessment of content structure in classroom dialogue. Kinetic structure analysis was used and the fundamental coefficient of structure was calculated for each lesson. The method should provide new directions for looking at verbal interaction in classrooms. (PS)

Theman, Jan – 1979
When an interview is used as a research technique, the process of the dialogue between the experimenter and the subject is a part of the experimental conditions. The dialogue can be extensively structured, or it can be open-ended. Though the latter situation may provide more information about the subject's thought processes, there is a greater…

Campbell, James Reed – 1974
Reported is an observational analysis process termed "macroanalysis" which involves the analysis of interactive dialogue in chains or sequences of coded behavior rather than in terms of conventional matrices and ratios. All existing 3-, 4-, and 5-tally chains are extracted directly from an observer's coded tallies. This paper includes a…

Perez-Pereira, Miguel; Conti-Ramsden, Gina – Journal of Visual Impairment & Blindness, 2001
Evaluation of the verbal interactions, especially maternal directives, among three mothers and their young blind children indicated that counting single occurrences of directives ignores the possible adaptive role that directive sequences may have in conversational interactions with blind children. (Contains references.) (Author/DB)

Long, John V. – 1971
Persons quantifying classroom verbal interaction may obtain varying results as a consequence of using different media forms in their experiments. A study was done to see if the medium used in the codification process has an effect upon data obtained, and if so, what the nature of the effect is. Codification consists of the translation of observed…

Medley, Donald M. – 1966
Educational Testing Service is involved in a measurement approach to research in teaching with a goal of developing procedures for obtaining objective quantitive descriptions of teacher behavior, in terms of a minimum number of dimensions, on the basis of direct observation. The Observation Schedule and Record (OScAR), a card which contains a list…

Adelman, Clem, Comp. – 1978
The papers in this collection were initially presented in two successive conferences that dealt with the collection, use, and reporting of spoken language for educational research. The ten papers deal with the method and procedures used in studying talk in a school situation; an analysis of the interaction between the researcher and a group of…

De Grave, W. S.; And Others – Instructional Science, 1996
To investigate whether problem-based learning leads to conceptual change, the cognitive and metacognitive processes of a group of medical students were studied during the problem analysis phase, and their verbal communication and thinking processes were analyzed. Stimulated recall of the thinking process during the discussion detected a conceptual…

Prokop, Manfred – Classroom Interaction Newsletter, 1974
This paper describes a method to extract, by computer, maximum amounts of sequential information on pattern frequencies underlying verbal interactions in the foreign language classroom. For this purpose, an observation instrument was developed which was expected to allow the study of the structure of the interaction process; it was hypothesized…

Yogman, Michael W. – 1977
This study investigates similarities and differences in the interactions of infants with mothers and fathers, and examines the structural characteristics of social interaction between infants and fathers. Data are based on analyses of videotapes showing face-to-face interaction of five healthy first born infants with their mothers and fathers. The…

Maxey, James H.
A two group-two treatment research design is presented; it allows for the assessment of the individual and the combined effects of the two treatments. Advantages include: (1) Initial evaluation represents an estimate of the stabilities of the measurements; and (2) Observation 4 compared with the average of Observation 1 and Observation 2 tests the…
