A method is presented for incorporating a large number of constraints on adaptive item selection in the construction of computerized adaptive tests. The method, which emulates practices of expert test specialists, is illustrated for verbal and quantitative measures. Its foundation is application of a weighted deviations model and algorithm. (SLD)

The effects of providing immediate feedback on an item-by-item basis to testees were investigated on several samples of undergraduates who were administered either adaptive or conventional tests. Results generally indicated that knowledge of results improved test performance. (JKS)

This research investigated the use of the Rasch simple logistic model in obtaining test-free ability estimates. Raw-score ability estimates were influenced by the difficulty of the items used in measurement but Rasch ability estimates were relatively independent of the item difficulty. (Author/CTM)

The scope and nature of sex differences in the Graduate Record Examination are explored by identifying individual test items that differ from the other items in terms of the magnitude of the difference in item difficulty for the sexes. This study investigated the adequacy of the Rasch model in equating existing standardized tests with groups of examinees not widely separated in ability. This research attempted to interrelate several methods of producing option weights (i.e., Guttman internal and external weights and judges' weights) and examined their effects on reliability and on concurrent, predictive, and face validity.
