Mandola, John – Journal of the Association for the Study of Perception, 1983
Tested the validity of the Mandola Colorvision Screening Test, a color confusion test involving geometric designs and a tracing technique, as a screening test for color vision defects in 82 preschool and kindergarten children. Results indicated that MCST separates medium to strong color vision defects from the normal population. (JAC)

Walters, James W.; And Others – American Annals of the Deaf, 1982
Between 1977 and 1980 vision examinations were given to 2,200 children and young adults from schools for the deaf in the states of Arkansas, Missouri, Louisiana, and Texas. The data indicated a need for increased emphasis on the evaluation of vision function in schools for the deaf. (Author/SW)

Winters, Roberta L.; And Others – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1989
Visual persistence was investigated in adults with and without dyslexia in order to determine whether dyslexic adults demonstrate problems similar to those found in childhood dyslexia. Results showed that sensitivity of dyslexic adults was impaired when parts of a test stimulus were presented to adjacent retinal areas, suggesting that under…

Morse, Alan R.; Teresi, Jeanne; Rosenthal, Bruce; Holmes, Douglas; Yatzkan, Elaine S. – Journal of Visual Impairment & Blindness, 2004
Most studies of vision in persons with Alzheimer's disease either exclude those with advanced dementia or are unable to assess their vision adequately, and therefore, improperly report these persons' visual acuity status. In this study, visual acuity was assessed using the ETDRS Snellen-type acuity chart and Teller Acuity Cards. The Teller Acuity…

Rabin, Annette T. – 1978
A review of literature indicates that many so-called reading miscues could well be the result of ocular defects rather than learning disabilities, and that there is a need for adequate screening programs at the earliest possible age so that these defects may be treated when they exist. The question is raised as to how many children designated as…

Janssen, Cynthia M. – 1979
The assessment of vision as it relates to and interacts with motor development is reviewed. The focus is on eye readiness skills normally occuring in infants' first few months of life and preceding eye-hand coordination. These visual skills fall into three categories: fixation, tracking, and scanning. Six standardized scales are reviewed and…

This study investigated the possibility of a functional relation between the auditory and visual systems in the human newborn beyond reflexive organization. Visual activity was monitored in 16 newborns through the use of infrared corneal reflection video tape recording. Infants were observed in total darkness and while monocularly viewing a…
