Erden Ozcan, Sule; Bal, Ayten Pinar – Cypriot Journal of Educational Sciences, 2019
The purpose of this study is to analyse geometric transformations of children in the early childhood period. The study utilised a case study to design one of the qualitative research methods. Interviews were conducted with 6-, 7- and 8-year-old children, in total 24 children, who were enrolled in a private pre-school and a primary school of the…

Noda, Mitsuru – International Journal of Behavioral Development, 2014
This study aims to examine the developmental changes in young children's perception. A matching completion task consisting of three geometric figures and one bird-like figure were completed by children 3-5 years of age ("N" = 99). The rotation effect, in which the correct response decreased with orientation (45°, 90° 135°, and 180°), was…

Abravanel, Eugene – Child Development, 1977
The figural simplicity or salience of parallel lines was studied in 3- and 4-year-olds by means of a figural matching procedure where parallelism was a basis for judging similarity. (Author/JMB)

Minnigerode, Fred A.; Carey, Richard N. – Child Development, 1974
In a study of spatial perspectives, third- and fifth-grade students were asked to coordinate perspectives on single-object and multiple-object arrays. (ST)

Braine, Lila Ghent – Journal of Research and Development in Education, 1973
The present paper is concerned particularly with the processes underlying the perception of the upright, that is, an object in its usual, or familiar, position in space. (Author/RK)

Scher, Anat; Olson, David R. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1982
Seven-year-olds compared successively presented oblique lines which varied as to their position within a square display and their relation to the diagonal axis of the display. Children apparently encoded lines in terms of position and axis features. They used a categorical spatial representational system to compare oblique lines. (Author/RD)
