Winer, Dov; Gati, Itamar – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1986
Investigated the relationship between cognitive differentiation and vocational interest crystallization. Results indicated the relationships between measures of cognitive differentiation were generally low, and that interest crystallization was related to between-construct differentiation, but not to the other measures of cognitive complexity.…

Gati, Itamar – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1991
Compared perceived structure of vocational interest fields of 29 career counselors with structures represented by circular-hexagonal model (CM) and hierarchical model (HM). Found counselors' grouping of Holland's six types and Roe's eight fields were compatible with both structures. Further investigation showed counselors' perceived structure of…

Gati, Itamar; Fassa, Naomi; Mayer, Yaron – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1998
Correlations among 43 career-related aspects (considerations influencing occupational choice) were analyzed using two data sets: the occupational database of a computerized career-guidance system and dialogs of 2,000 counselees using the system. Great similarity was found between occupational characteristics and counselees' preferences. (SK)

Gati, Itamar – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1985
Several concepts related to single and multiple score profile(s) common in career counseling are discussed. An alternative measure, based on the similarity between profiles, is proposed as a measure of congruence and coherence. The proposed measure takes into account the structure of interests and the structure of occupations. (Author/BL)

Gati, Itamar – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1984
Examined the structure of occupations based on judgments of similarity, compared this structure with those derived from subjects' (N=26) responses to interest inventories, and compared the circular and hierarchical models. Results indicated that a combination of the circular and hierarchical models is preferable to either model alone. (LLL)

Gati, Itamar – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1979
A hierarchical model for the structure of vocational interests is proposed. An interpretation of existing findings suggests that this model accounts for interrelations among the vocational interest fields better than other models. Implications of this model for vocational theory and some applications in vocational guidance are discussed. (Author)

Gati, Itamar; Fishman-Nadav, Yael; Shiloh, Shoshana – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 2006
The present research investigated the relations among the declared preferred degree for using career-related abilities in one's future career, self-estimates of these abilities, and measured abilities in a sample of 201 career-counseling clients. The highest correlations (range .57-.65) were found between the preferred degree for using an ability…

Gati, Itamar; Winer, Dov – Career Development Quarterly, 1987
Examined data from 96 college students and applicants who applied for career counseling. Found that the predictions of the hierarchical model for the structure of occupations regarding the relative proximity between occupational fields were more adequate than were those of the circular model. (NB)
Descriptors: Career Counseling, Career Development, College Applicants, College Students

Gati, Itamar – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1982
Tested models of interests by examining the significance of disconfirmed ordinal predictions. Examined data regarding Holland's hexagonal model and Roe's circular ordering. Tested adequacy of the hierarchical model and compared significance of the disconfirmed predictions of the hierachical model to that of the hexagonal-circular model. (Author)

Gati, Itamar; And Others – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1995
Examined three facets of career preferences so as to identify possible sources of the observed differences in the career choices of women and men. Analysis of the career-related preferences of 2,000 young adults revealed only small gender differences in the relative importance of the aspects. Other findings are also considered. (RJM)

Gati, Itamar; Winer, Dov – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1987
Investigated relationship between vocational interests and location of an ideal occupation in the perceived occupational structure of career counselees. Career counselees (N=96) completed the RAMAK vocational interest inventory. Intrasubject analyses indicated the preferences for occupational fields as measured by the interest inventory reflected…

Gati, Itamar; Meir, Elchanan I. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1982
Tested the predictive validity of Holland's constructs of congruence and consistency defined according to the hierarchical model for the structure of interests. A follow-up study of adults tested as high school seniors showed the hierarchical and circular models are of similar efficiency in predicting occupational choice satisfaction. (Author/JAC)
