Wienk, Ronald E.; And Others – 1979
This report of racial discrimination in housing throughout the United States measures the nature and extent of discrimination against blacks in both the sales and rental housing market. Yinger, John – 1978
Briefly reviewed in this paper is the literature on racial transition. The review is built around three questions: (1) Where does racial transition take place? (2) How does racial transition proceed in a single neighborhood? and (3) How does racial transition in one neighborhood relate to racial transition in other neighborhoods? Models and…

Galster, George C. – Urban Affairs Quarterly, 1987
The spatial variation in racial housing market discrimination is investigated. Findings show that all-white areas and areas which are gaining in black residents have higher discrimination rates than black areas with stable populations. Housing agents discriminate when they fear losing business from prejudiced white clients. (VM)

Darden, Joe T. – Journal of Black Studies, 1990
Examines the relationship of professional status to the suburbanization of the following groups in the North Central region: (1) Whites; (2) Asian Americans; (3) American Indians; (4) Hispanic Americans; (5) and Blacks. Betancur, John J. – Social Forces, 1996
Describes Latino settlement in Chicago, 1910-90. Latino immigration (frequently "importation" of low-skill, low-wage workers) reflects U.S. domination of Latin America; consequent Latino vulnerability and low status allow real estate speculation exploiting their quasi-racial status through exclusion and market manipulation. Questions…

Massey, Douglas S.; Gross, Andrew B. – Urban Affairs Quarterly, 1991
White racial attitudes have shifted from a universal rejection of Black neighbors to acceptance of open housing in principle but not in practice. Declines in racial segregation between 1970 and 1980 were confined to urban areas with relatively few Blacks, and desegregation was accommodated without threatening White preferences for limited…

Wilson, Franklin D. – 1974
This document reports the findings of a national study of black-white differentials in housing consumption. The main issue is said to be whether blacks pay higher prices and/or consume different residential packages than whites as a result of racial discrimination and segregation. Results indicate that blacks purchase different residential…

Rosenthal, Harvey M. – 1967
This compilation of selected social, demographic and economic characteristics of the Stamford population as these pertain to the current racial composition of the city's public schools, was part of a larger study of quality desegregated education conducted in the Stamford public schools. The data were derived from a number of sources, primarily…

Farley, Reynolds – Challenge: A Journal of Research on African American Men, 1994
Traces the development of black-white residential segregation in U.S. cities, and applies the views of Gunnar Myrdal, expressed in the 1940s, to housing trends in the 1980s. While such segregation has decreased, blacks remain more segregated than two other large minority groups (i.e., Hispanics and Asians). Forces influencing residential…

Yinger, John – 1975
The debate about the black-white price differential in housing is clarified in this paper. The theoretical literature on this differential is reviewed, and it is shown how the various theories can be tested in a regression of house values on housing characteristics. A properly specified house-value regression leads not only to tests of hypotheses…
