Read All about It! A Classroom Newspaper Integrates the Curriculum
Sahn, Laurie; Reichel, Anne
Young Children, v63 n2 p12-18 Mar 2008
Each morning the first-graders are excited about applying their learning in reading, writing, math, science, social studies, art, oral language, and the social-emotional realm. The children are reporters, observing, documenting their work in small notebooks, discussing it, and reporting on it weekly in the class newspaper. To help teachers adapt this engaging yearlong project for their own classrooms, Sahn and Reichel discuss the theory and supporting research; describe preparation, procedures, and classroom support; and enumerate the benefits. In detailed sidebars they elaborate on research, content areas covered, and organization of reporting jobs. They include a photo of the finished product.
