The purpose of this qualitative case study was to explore how the organizational culture of the after-school program within the Inn Dwelling Comprehensive Youth Initiative (IDCYI) after-school program provided by the Inn Dwelling organization, which serves two communities in Philadelphia, PA influences student academic achievement. The sample consisted of three IDCYI directors, 26 IDCYI tutors, three retired tutors, four interns and three alumni, 36 middle and high school students. The research questions for this study were: How does organizational culture influence student academic achievement at IDCYI after-school program in two Philadelphia communities? How do Schein's (2004) levels of the organizational culture model factors of values, artifacts and assumed values influence students' academic achievement? Schein's (2010) Organizational Culture theory was the theoretical foundation for this study. The data sources included tutor, alumni members, retired tutors and director responses to interviews and questionnaire questions, observations of all participants, field notes of meetings and observations and SAT scores provided by IDCYI. The results of this study identified themes of how organizational culture influences students' academic achievement at IDCYI. The themes for this study were high expectations, relationships, and opportunities. Educators may find this study has value as it relates to classroom practices and assisting students' academic achievement.
