Under treatment conditions, retarded and normal children located an object more quickly, looked at it longer, and recognized more objects on a recognition-memory task. A study of response to speed changes in coincidence-anticipation judgments investigated: (1) the existence of directional error; (2) its persistence after extended practice; and (3) its occurrence upon transfer to new contextual stimuli. This article showed that students demonstrate individual differences in their composition of text. It was found that noncontingent students tended to write more creative essays and used more text-creative or schema-creative propositions in composing their descriptions than did the other two register groups (imitative and contingent). The intention of this study was to discover how and to what extent children use simile and metaphor in their spontaneous oral language. Results showed that type of stimulus was the most influential factor in inducing children's oral metaphoric language, with the nature of the task also significant. (Author/GK)
