The present research sought to determine whether developmental congruity between symptom form and level of maturity might be indicative of generally greater potential for adaptive success, as indicated by a measure of defense effectiveness. The results were as predicted. (Author)

New items were written for the sensation seeking scale in an attempt to develop new scales representative of hypothesized dimensions of sensation seeking. Examined the Wechsler-Bellevue, Rorschah, TAT, and Word-Association tests of forty patients for clinical indications of their suicide potential. On the basis of a blind, psychoanalytically informed clinical interpretation of the protocols, the outcomes of these protocols were successfully predicted for 85 percent of the cases. (Author)
