Phenomena of clustering and subjective organization in free recall are defined by recall-order consistency, which is assumed to reflect the organization a subject imposes upon material he is required to memorize. In three studies, 12-month-old infants were familiarized either tactually or visually with objects and were then tested for visual recognition memory using either (1) the familiar and a novel object, (2) colored pictures of the objects, or (3) outline drawings of the objects. (Author/MP)

Two studies measuring two attention-influencing devices on the attention to visual stimuli of elementary educable mentally retarded students suggested that an arrow may be an effective attention-influencing device with a simple memory task or with older students, while contrast is more effective in a complex memory task.
