The scale developed in this study did not differentiate empathic regard; however, the use of videotape and insights provided through recall sessions made possible the creation of an instrument and instructions for its use which came closer to a congruence of theoretical and operational definition than before. Peer reviewedLevine, Frederic J. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1971
Wolitzky's theoretical objections to the premises of a recent study by Levine are traced to some misunderstandings of the study's rationale, and to a difference in definition of the concept of constricted versus flexible control. (Author)

Overall the differentiation of the forms among themselves and with the external variables was reasonably good. (Author)
