Differences in ratings of initial expectancy of success, perceived scholastic ability, and causal attributions were assessed for male and female high school students for a simulated academic test. Most follow-up studies of suicides are made after a relatively short period of time. The present study involved 229 attempted suicides hospitalized during the years 1933-1942. The incidence of suicide long after the original attempt, at least in the case of the women, statistically exceeds the expected incidence. (Author)
