Three male students (ages 13-15) with behavior disorders/emotional disturbances were taught to self-monitor in 3 successive academic areas: reading, mathematics, and spelling. As part of a longitudinal study of psychosocial development, 148 girls and 130 boys were administered a questionnaire about a close friend in their eighth grade school year. Suicide mortality rates are analyzed for older adults (Blacks, Whites, males, and females) using national mortality data for 1980 through 1986. Elderly White males have the highest rates and have experienced an increase of 23 percent. The rate for Black males rose by 42 percent. Implications for social policy are discussed. (SLD)

Data from the Occupational Changes in a Generation Survey (1973) (sample of over 19,000 men) indicate that family disruption during childhood substantially increases men's odds of ending up in the lowest occupational stratum and weakens the association between dimensions of men's occupational origins and destinations.
