Cepni, Salih; Ozsevgec, Tuncay; Cerrah, Lale – Online Submission, 2004
Students' abstract reasoning abilities can differ from one society to another. Students' profiles play significant roles in these differences. The aim of the study is to determine the relationship between middle school students' cognitive development levels and their profiles (age, gender, and science achievement) using the Science Cognitive…

Ediger, Marlow – 2001
Teacher-developed tests can be more valid and reliable than standardized tests or state-mandated tests in evaluating student achievement in science. Many teachers, however, are not acquainted with the standards to use in test writing. The National Research Council has released "Classroom Assessment and the National Education Standards," a…

Carraher, Charles E., Jr.; And Others – Journal of Chemical Education, 1983
Lists polymer chemistry topics and depth of topics to be covered in general chemistry courses. Also lists topics using polymers as tools for delivering necessary concepts, discussing 11 topic areas. List of readings, information on textbook evaluation, and illustrative examination questions are included. (JN)

Payne, Beverly D.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
Test anxiety scores from a 15-item internally consistent instrument were correlated with performance on an aggregate science test administered to 171 fourth- and 187 eight-grade students subdivided by sex and race. The interpretation of data possibly suggest that test anxiety is operating differentially for black and white students. (Author/PN)

Ross, John A.; Maynes, Florence J. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1983
Multiple-choice tests were constructed for seven problem-solving skills using learning hierarchies based on expert-novice differences and refined in three phases of field testing. Includes test reliabilities (sufficient for making judgments of group performance but insufficient in single-administration for individual assessment), validity, and…

Husen, Torsten – Phi Delta Kappan, 1983
Discusses the limitations of crossnational comparisons of secondary student performance in the U.S. and selected European and Pacific industrial countries, using mathematics and science data from the International Assessment for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA). Suggests the most serious problem is the rise of a new educational…

Hough, Linda W.; Piper, Martha K. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1982
The relationship between elementary pupils' (N=583) attitudes toward science and science achievement when using residualized gain scores was investigated. Results indicated significant relationships between scores on the two tests used: multiple choice, fill-in science achievement test, and a six-statement attitude inventory. (Author/JN)

Rippey, Robert M.; Smith, Susan – Evaluation and the Health Professions, 1979
Medical and dental students were administered two short confidence-scored tests on cellular and molecular biology. Increases in test reliability and predictive validity were found when test scores were adjusted for realism, but were not statistically significant. (Author/MH)
