Peer reviewedBoud, D. J.; And Others – Journal of Chemical Education, 1980
Presents a viewpoint regarding guidelines that should be established in publishing reports of teaching innovation in laboratory courses. (CS)
Descriptors: Chemistry, College Science, Guidelines, Higher Education
Kirk, Robert H.; And Others – Health Education (Washington D.C.), 1980
Summaries are presented of evaluation research on a National Dairy Council guide for integrating nutrition education into high school health education courses. The program was found to be effective in improving both general health test performance and nutrition test performance. (JMF)
Descriptors: Course Content, Curriculum Evaluation, Curriculum Guides, Health Education
National Wildlife, 1981
Describes trends in the state of the nation's wildlife, minerals, air, water, forests, living space, and soil resources. Positive gains in 1980 are offset by threats to the progress made during the past decade. (WB)
Descriptors: Depleted Resources, Environment, Environmental Education, Environmental Standards
Peer reviewedMiller, Jeff – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1979
The influence of frequency of occurrence of a visual stimulus on encoding processes is investigated, to discover what mechanisms allow cognitive processes to modify perceptual processes. Six experiments are described and the results are discussed. (MH)
Descriptors: Cognitive Processes, Expectation, Higher Education, Probability
Peer reviewedChemical and Engineering News, 1979
This is an announcement of the availability of the National Research Council's report on "The State of School Science." The report is one of eight that the National Science Foundation requested from eight national organizations, each with a different perspective on science education. (Author/SA)
Descriptors: Basic Skills, Declining Enrollment, Educational Improvement, Educational Quality
Peer reviewedKee, Kevin N.; White, Richard T. – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1979
The compound nature of Gagne's original definition of learning hierarchies leads to two methods of validation, the positive and negative methods. Sections of a hierarchy that had been validated by the negative method were subjected to test by the more cumbersome positive method, and again were found to be valid. (Author/RD)
Descriptors: Educational Objectives, Foreign Countries, High Schools, Learning
Peer reviewedEdwards, Andrew S.; Morris, John D. – Education, 1980
Attitudes of undergraduate elementary education majors were examined to determine the relationship between dogmatism and teacher preference for certain teaching styles. Findings indicated the more dogmatic groups of future teachers had greater attitudinal preferences for the orderly, dependent, exhibitionistic, and dominant teaching styles. (DS)
Descriptors: Attitudes, College Students, Correlation, Dogmatism
Peer reviewedAntonak, Richard F.; Roberge, James J. – American Educational Research Journal, 1978
Pictorial conditional reasoning test items which were varied according to principle of inference and type of content were administered to three groups of educably mentally retarded children. Results revealed that retardates' reasoning strategies were congruent with those reported for younger normals in previous studies. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Cognitive Processes, Elementary Secondary Education, Learning, Logical Thinking
Bennett, Neville – Times Educational Supplement (London), 1978
A critique of the research methods used in "Primary Education in England," a report of Her Majesty's Inspectorate that was based on teacher questionnaires and classroom observations of 7-, 9-, and 11-year-olds in 542 schools. (SJL)

Peer reviewedBetz, M. Austin; Gabriel, K. Ruben – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1978
This paper is concerned with testing hypotheses about main effects, simple effects, and interaction effects by means of analysis of variance. It presents alternative strategies for analyzing data sets for which a factorial model with two completely crossed, fixed factors is appropriate. (CTM)
Descriptors: Analysis of Variance, Aptitude Treatment Interaction, Hypothesis Testing, Research Problems
Peer reviewedHarris, Chester W.; Pearlman, Andrea Pastorok – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1978
A theory and a procedure are presented for estimating a domain parameter and item parameters for test items in a homogeneous domain, such that the combined domain and item parameters account for observed proportions right for each item in a test. (CTM)
Descriptors: Achievement Tests, Difficulty Level, Item Analysis, Mathematical Models
Peer reviewedClegg, Ambrose A., Jr.; And Others – Multiple Linear Regression Viewpoints, 1979
The application of multiple linear regression to the identification of appropriate criterion variables and the prediction of enrollment in college courses during a period of major rapid decline (1972-1978) are discussed. An example is presented. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Declining Enrollment, Enrollment Influences, Enrollment Projections, Higher Education
Peer reviewedTideman, T. Nicolaus – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
A statistical test for analysis of repeated measures is presented. It is shown that an appropriate chi-square statistic can be computed for related measures by taking account of the covariance among trials in computing a variance for the chi square statistic. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Analysis of Covariance, Analysis of Variance, Hypothesis Testing, Nonparametric Statistics
Peer reviewedMurphy, Lawrence R.; Pringle, Robert A. – Journal of Studies in Technical Careers, 1979
