Seventeen children ranging in age from 9 to 15 years and from grades four and eight in five classes for students with emotional conflicts were placed on a video game reward system. A case study to determine the extent to which teacher decisions about students are influenced by teacher tolerance for students' behavioral characteristics revealed that teacher tolerances affected the ratings of an immature elementary student but not the ratings of an unmanageable elementary student, who was viewed more negatively overall. It was found that mentally retarded individuals awaiting placement were younger, more intellectually and physically handicapped, and less skilled than persons already in group homes. Persons in jeapardy of placement failure had higher IQs, fewer mobility problems, and greater independence skills than other group home residents. (Author/SEW)
