The early development of the Academic Motivations Inventory, a self-report measure of the academic motivations of college students, is described. Success of student nurses from three ethnic groups on a state board certification examination was predicted from study behavior, course grade point average and standardized achievement tests administered prior to nurse training. The validity of a Hebrew version of the Illinois Course Evaluation Questionnaire was investigated in eighty courses in science and engineering at the Israel Institute of Technology. Factor analysis revealed a reasonable correspondence between empirical structure and that afforded by logic and intuition. (Author/JKS)
