Easterday, Kenneth E.; Smith, Tommy – School Science and Mathematics, 1992
Presents the results of a survey of 922 Alabama secondary mathematics teachers' perceived needs for in-service training. Factor analysis produced six factors, with the factors New Knowledge, Teaching Marginal Students, and Computer Use and Knowledge containing the eight most significant needs. Marshburn, Elaine C.; Aman, Michael G. – Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 1992
Teacher ratings on the Aberrant Behavior Checklist were collected on 666 students with mental retardation attending special classes. Classroom placement and age had significant effects on subscale scores, whereas sex failed to affect ratings. The study concludes that the original scoring method, developed for individuals in residential facilities,…

Walkey, Frank H.; Green, Dianne E. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1992
Six sets of data from previous studies are used to investigate the factor structure of the Maslach Burnout Inventory. In all 6 sets, the 22 inventory items divided between 2 clearly replicable factors. The larger, the Core of Burnout Factor, divides in turn into two equally replicable factors. (SLD)

Strauman, Timothy J.; Wetzler, Scott – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1992
Scale-level factor analyses are reported for 2 self-report measures of psychopathology, the Symptom Checklist-90-R (SCL-90) and the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory (MCMI), using 130 psychiatric inpatients and outpatients. Used separately, the measures offer limited interpretability of scale profiles. Their combined use permits differentiation…

Simpson, D. Dwayne; McBride, Anthony A. – Hispanic Journal of Behavioral Sciences, 1992
Examined underlying factors, reliability, and predictive validity of the Family, Friends, and Self (FFS) Assessment Scales based on data collected from 700 Mexican-American youth aged 13-18 admitted to 11 drug abuse prevention programs in Texas. The revised FFS drops the content approximately 25 percent to 63 items covering 10 scales. (KS)

Barton, Richard M.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1994
The factorial validity and reliability of the newly developed Teacher Effectiveness Survey was examined in a sample of 390 principals. Results indicate that the instrument consists of three subscales (Instruction, Leadership, and Interpersonal/Professional), each measuring a different facet of a teacher's abilities. (SLD)

Ludlow, Larry H.; Guida, Frank V. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1991
Factor analysis of scores on the 30-item Test Anxiety Scale for Children (TASC) of 455 seventh and eighth graders supports previous findings of a 4-factor structure. Item response theory analysis suggests that the TASC is a continuum defining an academic anxiety construct of clusters of commonly related items. (SLD)

Bolin, Brien L.; Dodder, Richard A. – Educational Research Quarterly, 1992
The Affect Balance Scale (ABS) was administered to 380 undergraduate students. Factor analysis resulted in five negatively phrased items loading with the same signs as five positively phrased items. These results, contrary to previous results with older subjects, suggest that the ABS may not be appropriate for use across age groups. (Author/SLD)

Onwuegbuzie, Anthony J.; Bailey, Phillip; Daley, Christine – Applied Psycholinguistics, 1999
Examined factors that predict foreign-language anxiety. Subjects included 10 university students; a setwise multiple regression analysis revealed that seven variables (age, academic achievement, prior history of visiting foreign countries, prior high school experience with foreign languages, expected overall age for current language course,…

Johnson, William L.; Johnson, Annabel M. – Research in the Schools, 1994
A total of 1,311 administrators, teachers, staff, and students from an elementary, a junior high, and two high school campuses in a large school district completed the Charles F. Bernal, Ernesto M. – Hispanic Journal of Behavioral Sciences, 2000
Examines some problems of the Texas Assessment of Academic Skills (TAAS): multiple cutoff scores for passing the test and receiving a high school diploma, and artificially "tricky" items that disproportionately confuse language-minority students. Uses factor analysis and simulations to show ways to improve item selection for the TAAS.…
