Salehi, Mohammad; Rezaee, Abbas Ali – Indian Journal of Applied Linguistics, 2009
The study was conducted with 3,385 participants who took an English language proficiency test as a partial requirement for entering a PhD program in different fields of education. This test has three sections which are grammar, vocabulary and reading comprehension. To determine the construct validity of the test, a series of analyses were done.…

Shujuan, Wang; Meihua, Qian; Jianxin, Zhang – Journal of Psychoeducational Assessment, 2009
This article examines the psychometric structure of the Anxiety Control Questionnaire (ACQ) in Chinese adolescents. With the data collected from 212 senior high school students (94 females, 110 males, 8 unknown), seven models are tested using confirmatory factor analyses in the framework of the multitrait-multimethod strategy. Results indicate…

Matson, Johnny L.; LoVullo, Santino V.; Rivet, Tessa T.; Boisjoli, Jessica A. – Research in Autism Spectrum Disorders, 2009
A limited number of studies currently exist focusing on comorbid psychopathology of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). Due to the heterogeneity of ASD symptoms, communication deficits, and impairments in intellectual functioning, assessing symptoms of psychopathology is complicated. The "Autism Spectrum Disorders-Comorbidity for…

Background: To study the factor structure of the Restricted Academic Situation Scale (RASS), a psychometric tool used to assess behavior in children with ADHD, 117 boys and 21 girls meeting "Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders" (4th ed.; "DSM-IV") criteria for ADHD and aged between 6 and 12 years were recruited. Assessments were…

Proctor, Briley E.; Prevatt, Frances – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 2009
This study used confirmatory factor analysis to compare one-, two-, and three-factor models of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms to determine which model is the best fit for the data. Participants were 190 clinic-referred college students who had been evaluated for ADHD, 155 of whom had received a diagnosis. Data consisted…

Lorr, Maurice; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
Tested for five higher-order dimensions hypothesized to be common to the Interpersonal Style (ISI) and the Sixteen Personality Factor questionnaires among detoxified alcohol dependent inpatients (N=50). An oblique factor structure confirmed the factors expected, representing Self Control, Interpersonal Involvement, Emotional Stability,…

Thompson, Bruce; Vidal-Brown, Sherry A. – 2001
Analysts differ quite heatedly over the use of principal components rather than principle axis factor analysis. The difference between the two approaches involves the entries used on the diagonal of the matrix of associations that is analyzed. This paper uses an actual data set (N=539; variables =98) to illustrate that these two methods converge…

Knight, Jennifer L. – 2000
This paper considers some decisions that must be made by the researcher conducting an exploratory factor analysis. The primary purpose is to aid the researcher in making informed decisions during the factor analysis instead of relying on defaults in statistical programs or traditions of previous researchers. Three decision areas are addressed.…

Kiers, Henk A. L.; Ten Berge, Jos M. F.; Rocci, Roberto – Psychometrika, 1997
Three-mode factor analysis (3MFA) and PARAFAC are methods that describe three-way data. A class of 3MFA models is introduced that falls between 3MFA and PARAFAC and contains the good properties of both approaches, including the unique axes property that has distinguished the PARAFAC model. (SLD)

Lorenzo-Seva, Urbano – Psychometrika, 2003
Proposes an index for assessing the degree of factor simplicity in the context of principal components and exploratory factor analysis. The index does not depend on the scale of the factors, and its maximum and minimum are related only to the degree of simplicity in the loading matrix. (SLD)

Yuan, Ke-Hai; Marshall, Linda L.; Bentler, Peter M. – Psychometrika, 2002
Proposes a rescaled Bartless-corrected statistic for evaluating the number of factors in exploratory factor analysis with missing data, nonnormal data, and in the presence of outliers. Numerical results illustrate the sensitivity of classical methods and advantages of the proposed procedures. (SLD)

Hayashi, Kentaro; Bentler, Peter M. – Psychometrika, 2000
Investigated the conditions under which the matrix of factor loadings from the factor analysis model with equal unique variances will give a good approximation to the matrix of factor loadings from the regular factor analysis model. Extends the results to the image factor analysis model. Discusses implications for practice. (SLD)

Molenaar, Peter C. M.; Nesselroade, John R. – Psychometrika, 2001
Proposes a special rotation procedure for the exploratory dynamic factor model for stationary multivariate time series. The rotation procedure applies separately to each univariate component series of a q-variate latent factor series and transforms such a component, initially represented as white noise, into a univariate moving-average.…

Lorenzo-Seva, Urbano – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1999
Proposes Promin as an alternative to Promaj for the rotation of oblique factors. Identifies advantages of the Promin approach, which seems to perform better than other well-known procedures. (SLD)

van Prooijen, Jan-Willem; van der Kloot, Willem A. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2001
Assessed the extent to which results in exploratory factor analysis (EFA) studies can be replicated by confirmatory factor analysis in the same sample. Used 10 factor structures drawn from the literature. Results show that confirmatory factor models in which all low EFA pattern coefficients were fixed to zero fitted especially poorly. (SLD)
