Gialluca, Kathleen A.; Weiss, David J. – 1981
Some type of difference or change score is frequently used to quantify the effects of experimental treatments and educational programs on individuals and on groups of individuals. Two studies investigated the tenability of the assumption that classroom instruction results in increases in students' achievement levels while the qualitative nature of…

Dermen, Diran; And Others – 1978
This guide provides research workers with a means of identifying certain self-report temperament factors in factor analytic studies. It is intended to promote interpretation and comparison of one factor study with another. The body of the guide is organized in 28 sections, one for each factor, followed by the reference section and an appendix…

Molidor, John B.; And Others – 1979
Scores on the four subtests of the old Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) and the six subtests of the new edition (1978) were factor analyzed. Scores were derived from similar groups of applicants. Two-factors, verbal-general information and science-quantitative, known from previous factorial studies of the old MCAT, emerged again. Five of the…

Maola, Joseph; And Others – 1971
The Ohio Vocational Interest Survey (OVIS) has been used as an interest measurement tool measuring student interests toward jobs dealing with data, people and things. The purpose for the present paper was to determine the consistency of the OVIS for measuring these three dimensions through factor analysis. The research findings demonstrated which…

Bayuk, Robert J., Jr.; Proger, Barton B. – 1971
Factor analysis was used to investigate the multidimensionality of the Test Anxiety Scale for Children (TASC). Originally designed as a unidimensional measure, subsequent research has indicated more than one meaningful dimension. A principal axis solution and varimax rotation was applied using the squared multiple correlations as initial…

Deal, Therry N. – 1970
This study reports a factor analysis of the data resulting from a 3-year longitudinal investigation into conservation of number and related mathematical type concepts. Conservation of number, which represents a subset within the concept of conservation, was measured by use of a 20-item, criterion-referenced testing device. The subjects, who were…

Kayser, Brian D. – 1973
The Guttman model of scale analysis has found continued use in sociological analysis despite criticisms placed against it. An empirical example is provided of the use of factor analysis with Guttman scaling even taking into account the criticisms of both very restricted item number of dichotomous responses. Data came from a questionnaire using…

Mehra, N. – 1972
In this article, new arguments and empirical evidence are presented justifying the use of Standardized R - analysis (or equivalently Q - technique) in certain types of factor-analytic studies. The standardized R - analysis analyses the intercorrelations among respondents based on their "ipsative" scores, as opposed to the unstandardized…

Hall, Charles E. – 1971
A factor rotation scheme is presented which has a property that is interesting for examining factor-structure hypotheses. Given several clusters of tests the orthogonal bounds scheme produces factors which contain these clusters in some optimal sense. (Author)

Joreskog, Karl G.; Van Thillo, Marielle – 1971
A new basic algorithm is discussed that may be used to do factor analysis by any of these three methods: (1) unweighted least squares, (2) generalized least squares, or (3) maximum likelihood. (CK)

The Mathematics Attitude Scale (Aiken, 1974) purports to reflect attitude toward mathematics on two basic dimensions, enjoyment and value. While this scale is widely used in mathematics research, the only empirical evidence supporting the two-factor structure is the item analysis of college freshmen responses. The present study examines the…

Peer reviewedAndrich, David; Godfrey, John R. – Reading Research Quarterly, 1978
Results from 188 subjects indicate that most of the items on the test conform to a Rasch latent trait model, but tend to cluster into levels consistent with a hierarchical structure of skills. (AA)

Peer reviewedKerber, Kenneth W.; Campbell, James P. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
A job satisfaction questionnaire was completed by 4,130 exempt and non-exempt employees of a computer company. Results supported test reliability and validity and suggested exempt employees were more satisfied. Satisfaction with the nature of work and satisfaction with pay and working conditions were the most important facets. (GDC)

A Reliability and Validity Investigation of the Multidimensional-Multiattributional Causality Scale.
Peer reviewedPowers, Stephen; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1985
College students were administered the Multidimensional-Multiattributional Causality Scale (MMCS). Most of the 3-item subscales had adequate reliabilities. A factor analysis of intercorrelations of responses revealed three pure factors and three ambiguous factors. Results provide partial support for reliability and factorial validity of the MMCS.…

Peer reviewedCollins, Linda M.; And Others – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1986
The present study compares the performance of phi coefficients and tetrachorics along two dimensions of factor recovery in binary data. These dimensions are (1) accuracy of nontrivial factor identifications; and (2) factor structure recovery given a priori knowledge of the correct number of factors to rotate. (Author/LMO)
