Donders, Jacques – Psychological Assessment, 1996
Representative profile subtypes were examined in the standardization sample (2200 children) of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Third Edition (WISC-III). Two-stage cluster analysis identified five reliable subtypes. A method for determining the relative uniqueness of clinically obtained WISC-III factor index score patterns is…

Babcock, Renee L.; Laguna, Kerrie – Studies in Educational Evaluation, 1997
The Educational Testing Service Kit of Factor-Referenced Cognitive Tests contains 72 tests that are supposed to be markers of 23 latent cognitive constructs. Examination of the factor structure of four of these tests with 165 undergraduates suggests caution in using the measures as markers of distinct factors. (SLD)

Thomas, Adrian; Palmer, Jerry K.; Coker-Juneau, Carla J.; Williams, David J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2002
Investigated the psychometric properties of the Interaction with Disabled Persons Scale (IDP; L. Gething, 1991). Exploratory factor analysis with 358 undergraduates and confirmatory factor analysis with a sample of 272 undergraduates suggest that the IDP may provide a reasonable measurement of multidimensional attitudes toward individuals with…

Melancon, Janet G. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2002
Studied the reliability, structure, and criterion-related validity of the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI; C. Weinstein, 1987) using data from 502 university students. Results suggest that the LASSI may not measure the postulated 10 scales typically used to report results. (SLD)

Schofield, Margot J.; Mishra, Gita D. – Gerontologist, 2003
Examines the reliability and validity of the Vulnerability to Abuse Screening Scale (VASS) for the early identification of elder abuse. Results confirmed the VASS factor structure and construct validity. The Vulnerability and Coercion factors held the strongest face and construct validity for physical and psychological abuse. (Contains 52…

Reynolds, Cecil R.; And Others – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 1988
Investigated factor structure of the Stanford-Binet Fourth Edition using collaboration matrix from the standardization sample of 1,695 children aged 2 through 6 years, 1,586 children aged 7 through 11 years, and 1,728 participants aged 12 through 23 years. The results revealed the large first factor that resembled general intelligence, with little…

Six, Jack E. – Adult Education Quarterly, 1989
To deterine whether three empirically derived factors of Oddi Continuing Learning Inventory (OCLI) remain across study samples, factor scores pairs were generated by using factor-score coefficients of two data sets and correlating factor scores. High positive correlations indicated three derived factors in factor structure matrix matched those…

Thompson, Bruce – Journal of Experimental Education, 1989
The comparability of seven sets of factor structure studies reported in previous research with the Bem Sex-Role Inventory was evaluated. The inventory's primary factors were reproduced in the studies, although the masculine scale was somewhat less invariant than was the feminine counterpart. (SLD)

Gilley, William F.; And Others – Psychology: A Journal of Human Behavior, 1988
Administered Peabody Mathematics Readiness Test to 325 students in kindergarten through second grade to investigate selected psychometric characteristics of the test. Found low item-to-item correlations; results did not support factor structure suggested by test's authors or proposed hierarchical structure. (Author/NB)

McCallum, R. Steve; And Others – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1988
Administration of the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale (fourth edition) to 60 elementary school students (in grades four, five, and six) resulted in means consistent with their gifted status. Factor analyses, including LISREL confirmatory analysis, offered only partial support to the Binet model. (TJH)

Burton, D. Bradley; And Others – Psychological Assessment, 1994
A maximum-likelihood confirmatory factor analysis was performed by applying LISREL VII to the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised results of a normal elderly sample of 225 adults. Results indicate that a three-factor model fits best across all sample combinations. A mild gender effect is discussed. (SLD)

Glorfeld, Louis W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1995
A modification of Horn's parallel analysis is introduced that is based on the Monte Carlo simulation of the null distributions of the eigenvalues generated from a population correlation identity matrix. This modification reduces the tendency of the parallel analysis procedure to overextract or to extract poorly defined factors. (SLD)

Brown, Charlotte; And Others – Psychological Assessment, 1995
The concordance and factor structures of the Beck Depression Inventory and the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression were evaluated with 259 outpatients being treated for depression. The two scales were significantly correlated and assessed similar rates of improvement at multiple assessment points, but emphasized different dimensions of…

Stone, Brian J. – Journal of School Psychology, 1992
Investigated joint factor structure of Differential Abilities Scale and Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised for 115 children. Compared theoretically supportable models (Spearman's General factor; Wechsler's Verbal, Performance, and Freedom from Distractibility factors; Elliott's verbal, nonverbal, spatial, and diagnostic perspective)…

Goldberg, Lewis R. – Psychological Assessment, 1992
Marker sets of variables to produce the Big-Five personality-factor structure were studied with over 1,000 college students completing adjective anchored bipolar rating scales or unipolar sets of adjectives. A set of 100 unipolar terms were highly robust across diverse samples of self- and peer-descriptions. (SLD)
