Miller, Geraldine A.; Rice, Kenneth G. – Journal of College Student Development, 1993
Examined psychometric properties of problem checklist used as part of counseling center intake procedure. Collected data from closed client files and examined frequency with which items were endorsed as presenting problems, factor structure, and reliability of subscales. Results indicated that checklist could be reduced to about one-half original…

De Ayala, R. J.; Hertzog, Melody A. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1991
Multidimensional scaling (MDS) and exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were compared in the assessment of the dimensionality of data sets, using sets generated to be one-dimensional or two-dimensional and differing in degree of interdimensional correlation and number of items defining a dimension. (SLD)

Borg, Ingwer; Staufenbiel, Thomas – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1992
The representation of multivariate data by icons is discussed. The factorial sun is suggested as superior to the commonly used snowflake or sun icons and as better representing the values of the different variables and their correlational structure. Two experiments with 60 college students demonstrate the factorial sun's superiority. (SLD)

Gustafsson, Jan-Eric; And Others – Scandinavian Journal of Educational Research, 1992
The dimensional structure of the 6 subtests of the Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test was investigated using data from 10 versions of the test administered to approximately 50,000 examinees in 1984-88. The best alternative appeared to be a model with two orthogonal factors. (SLD)

Brown, Sharon L. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 1994
Explored structure of brief version of Ways of Coping (WOC) Questionnaire and coping strategies employed by students enrolled in stressful academic programs. Findings from 207 veterinary medicine students lend support to view that there are relatively stable underlying coping structures across samples or groups within specified coping situations.…

Tran, Thanh V.; And Others – Journal of Multicultural Social Work, 1994
Analysis of data from 668 black adult respondents to the 1980 National Survey of Black Americans suggests that subjective well-being among black Americans is multidimensional. A three-factor model of subjective well-being encompassing strain (depressive symptoms), life satisfaction, and self-esteem was empirically supported and consistently…

Tepper, Bennett J.; Percy, Paul M. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1994
Two studies with 290 college students and 95 business managers investigated the latent structure of items from the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ). Results support models in which transformational and transactional leadership items load on separate factors and suggest that charismatic and inspirational leadership scales converge for…

Hsu, Louis M. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1994
Item overlap coefficient (IOC) formulas are discussed, providing six warnings about their calculation and interpretation and some explanations of why item overlap influences the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory and the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory factor structures. (SLD)

Reinhard, Susan C.; And Others – Evaluation and Program Planning, 1994
A scale developed to assess the burdens of families with a seriously mentally ill member, the Burden Assessment Scale (BAS), is described. Use of the scale in two studies involving 188 family members demonstrates its stable factor structure and practicality for program evaluation. (SLD)

Lambert, Zarrel V.; And Others – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1991
A method is presented that eliminates some interpretational limitations arising from assumptions implicit in the use of arbitrary rules of thumb to interpret exploratory factor analytic results. The bootstrap method is presented as a way of approximating sampling distributions of estimated factor loadings. Simulated datasets illustrate the…

Cummings, Anne L.; Murray, Harry G. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 1990
Examined psychometric properties, including factor structure, of the Index of Responding and assessed implications of that structure for counseling research. Index of Responding was used as measure of empathy with 70 elementary and secondary teachers enrolled in undergraduate program in guidance counseling. Factor analysis yielded one wide-loading…

DeLucia, Janice L.; Bowman, Vicki E. – Journal for Specialists in Group Work, 1991
Examined the internal consistency and factor structure of the Group Counselor Behavior Rating Form. Findings from 140 graduate students suggest a relatively high degree of internal consistency. Four factors (interventions, facilitative conditions, application of theory, and professionalism) were identified that accounted for 58.9 percent of the…

Lapan, Richard T.; And Others – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1990
Studied gender differences in factor structure of Basic Interest Scales (BISs) from 1927-85. Results describe clear factor structure for BISs, but scale loadings did not support BISs' General Occupational Theme classifications. Found gender differences for between-factor correlations and relatively stable factor structure over time that existed…

Daniel, Larry G.; Siders, James A. – Journal of Personnel Evaluation in Education, 1994
Whether a feasible a priori factor structure can be identified for the Mississippi Teacher Assessment Instruments (MTAI) was studied through exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis of ratings of 194 student teachers. Analyses support some degree of construct validity, but expected factor structures were not identified. (SLD)
