In general, counselor educators have borrowed heavily from psychotherapeutic theories in conceptualizing service delivery models. These models have in common an assumption that the goal of counseling is the personal growth and development of the client. This leads to at least two problems for counselors who work in agency settings. (Author)

A person centered communication workshop was developed to help aspiring facilitators achieve a set of listening and responding skills with which to initiate and/or sustain facilitative interactions. The workshop has been helpful to teachers, teacher aides, counselors, speech-audiology therapists, and pupil personnel workers. (LBH)

Examined the most effective usage of videotape in job interview skill training for 24 mentally retarded young adults utilizing the microcounseling model of instruction. Data revealed the microcounseling model is most effective with the two skill areas of eye contact and body posture regardless of the method of videotape utilization. (Author)

Describes a 1-year experimental program set up in a Canadian vocational training institution to study a systems versus the traditional approach to managing technical training. Acquisition, discrimination, and review training were used to teach four severely retarded adolescents to tell time to the nearest 5-minute interval. All subjects acquired the target behavior, and three of four maintained appropriate responses after 8 weeks. Discrimination errors and the social relevance of the skill are discussed. (Author/JW)
