Arbit, Jack; Zagar, Robert – Journal of Psychology, 1979
Reveals a two-factor structure (general retentiveness and memory) in the Wechsler Memory Scale for total male and female samples and for both males and females aged 13 to 39 years and 40 to 59 years but not for males or females aged 60 to 88 years. (Author/RL)

Spearritt, Donald – International Journal of Educational Research, 1996
The model of cognitive ability proposed by John B. Carroll is described and its implications for education traced. The Carroll model is unique in that it is based on datasets reanalyzed by standard procedures. The variables and factors established through factoring were used to construct the three-stratum Carroll model. (SLD)

Chang, Chih-Hung – Structural Equation Modeling, 1996
The underlying structure of the Depression scale of the revised Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI-2) was studied using dichotomous Rasch model and factor analysis with the normative sample of 2,600 subjects. Results reveal two distinct subscales (mental depression and physical depression) in place of a homogenous set of items. (SLD)

Hamid, P. Nicholas; Cheng, Sheung-Tak – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1996
A short measure of trait and state negative and positive affect, the Chinese Affect Scale, was developed for Chinese-speaking people and tested in Hong Kong with 306 community adults and 314 college students. Scores had reasonable internal and retest reliabilities and high convergent and discriminant validity. (SLD)

Mok, Magdalena Mo Ching; Flynn, Marcellin – Journal of Applied Measurement, 2002
Established the longitudinal factorial construct validity of the Quality of Life Scale designed originally to measure the well-being of students in Australian high schools. Results for 5,932 secondary students (1993) and 8,269 students (1999) support the factorial construct validity of the measure. (SLD)

Cameron-Jones, Margot; O'Hara, Paul – Scottish Educational Review, 1997
Factor analysis of grades received by 314 primary teachers graduating from a Scottish institution in 1988 or 1996 found that in both years, course of study accounted for over 60% of variance among teacher competencies. The institution's two types of training produced teachers who were stronger either in assessment and subject content or in…

Wiseman, Michael; Bogner, Franz X. – Scandinavian Journal of Educational Research, 1997
The perceptions of students toward conservation and nature utilization and their behavior toward the environment were studied with 725 Danish adolescents and a previously studied group of Bavarian adolescents. Following construct validation, comparison of mean within-region factor values reveals substantial differences between countries. (SLD)

Gomez-Benito, J.; Forns-Santacana, M. – Psychology in the Schools, 1996
Examines the construct validity of a scale for 7-year-old children and analyzes the degree of factorial similarity between this analysis and another study performed on 4-year-old children. Results indicate that the cognitive abilities measured by the scale become more general with age and the level of schooling. (RJM)

Dauphinee, Thomas L.; And Others – Structural Equation Modeling, 1997
Confirmatory factor analysis of responses from 991 undergraduates showed that a four-factor structure (Affect, Cognitive Competence, Value, and Difficulty) provided the best fit for males and females as the factor structure of the Survey of Attitudes toward Statistics, developed for this study to measure students' attitudes about statistics. Mok, Mo Ching Magdalena; Flynn, Marcellin – Journal of Applied Measurement, 2002
Studied the dimensionality and construct validity of the School Development Expectation Scale for use with Year 12 students in Australia. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the postulated five-factor model in the validation sample of 8,310 students. The scale was calibrated using the Rasch rating scale, and recommendations were made to refine…

Corbin, Steven S.; Chiachiere, Frank J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1995
The validity and reliability of a scale measuring attitudes toward foreign language were studied with 536 high school seniors. Results of principal components analysis identified five interpretable dimensions and suggested the need to improve the internal structure of the measure. (SLD)

Richardson, John T. E. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1995
Approaches to studying were investigated in 227 U.S. college students using a short form of the Approaches to Studying Inventory. The factor structure of responses differed from that previously obtained in the United Kingdom, suggesting that basic study orientations are interpreted in a manner distinct to each cultural context. Gold, Yvonne; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1992
Factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis of the Educators Survey, an inventory to assess teacher burnout, for scores from 133 beginning elementary and secondary school teachers support a 3-factor structure. The level of construct validity of the instrument is considered promising for assessing teacher burnout. (SLD)

Vallerand, Robert J.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1992
A French measure of motivation toward education was cross-culturally validated in English with 745 Canadian university students. Results demonstrate satisfactory internal consistency and temporal stability for the English version, the Academic Motivation Scale (AMS). A LISREL confirmatory factor analysis confirms the seven-factor structure of the…

Michael, William B.; Bachelor, Patricia – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1992
A more parsimonious interpretation of the factor structure of creativity tests than that afforded by the original study was found in this reanalysis of a study of 403 sixth graders by P. Merrifield, J. Guilford, and A. Gershon (1963). The prior analysis extracted and rotated too many factors. (SLD)
