Peer reviewedAchenbach, Thomas M.; Edelbrock, Craig S. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1979
Reports construction of editions of the child behavior profile for boys aged 12-16 and girls aged 6-11 and 12-16 years, as well as reliability and stability findings, comparisons between normal children and those referred for mental health services, and comparisons with findings for 6- to 11-year-old boys. (Author)
Descriptors: Age Differences, Behavior Problems, Behavior Rating Scales, Children
Peer reviewedCarbno, W. Clifford – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1981
The generalizability of student evaluations of college instruction is analyzed and generalizability theory data collected in a common design is applied. Results suggest that use of student evaluations of teacher effectiveness may lead to decisions based upon undependable data. (Author/GK)
Descriptors: Evaluation Methods, Higher Education, Models, Student Evaluation of Teacher Performance
Graham, Steve; Henry, Nick – Diagnostique, 1981
A study involving 202 undergraduates and 115 regular educators examined the reliability of the Rucker-Gable Educational Programming Scale, a measure of teachers' attitudes toward and knowledge of appropriate program placement for handicapped children. Results showed the scale to be only moderately reliable. (SB)
Descriptors: Attitude Measures, Disabilities, Elementary Secondary Education, Knowledge Level
Moracco, John; And Others – Vocational Guidance Quarterly, 1981
Military males (N=67) and females (N=61) from five common occupational career fields responded to the Occupational Aspiration Scale (OAS), which measures levels of occupational prestige. Analyses revealed that male participants scored significantly higher than females. Possible reasons for differences are discussed. (RC)
Descriptors: Affiliation Need, Comparative Analysis, Females, Males
Kleinman, Susan P. – Health Education (Washington D.C.), 1981
A project was designed to provide evaluation materials for dental health education programs at the primary level. Reliable test instruments that assessed cognitive understanding of dental concepts by primary age children were designed. (JN)
Descriptors: Course Objectives, Dental Health, Health Education, Primary Education
Peer reviewedShanahan, Timothy; And Others – Reading Research Quarterly, 1982
Suggests limitations on the sensitivity of cloze procedures to measure the ability of college students to use information across sentence boundaries. (AEA)
Descriptors: Cloze Procedure, College Students, Reading Comprehension, Reading Research
Peer reviewedDe Lisi, Richard; Smith, Jeffrey K. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1979
The reliability of Oltman's Portable Rod and Frame Test (PRFT) was assessed using 60 first-, third-, and fifth-grade children. Various reliability estimates ranged from .90 to .97. Age and sex differences were also examined. (Author/BH)
Descriptors: Age Differences, Cognitive Style, Cognitive Tests, Elementary Education
Peer reviewedTerwilliger, James S.; Lele, Kaustubh – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1979
Different indices for the internal consistency, reproducibility, or homogeneity of a test are based upon highly similar conceptual frameworks. Illustrations are presented to demonstrate how the maximum and minimum values of KR20 are influenced by test difficulty and the shape of the distribution of test scores. (Author/CTM)
Descriptors: Difficulty Level, Item Analysis, Mathematical Formulas, Statistical Analysis
Peer reviewedAustin, Joe Dan – Psychometrika, 1981
On distractor-identification tests students mark as many distractors as possible on each test item. A grading scale is developed for this type testing. The score is optimal in that it yields an unbiased estimate of the student's score as if no guessing had occurred. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Guessing (Tests), Item Analysis, Measurement Techniques, Scoring Formulas
Peer reviewedSilverstein, A. B.; And Others – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1981
Howard's Maze test and Maw and Maw's Which-to-Discuss test were individually administered to 25 educable mentally retarded junior high school students. Although the internal consistency of both tests was acceptably high, scores were essentially unrelated to a host of demographic and other types of variables. (Author)
Descriptors: Correlation, Junior High Schools, Mild Mental Retardation, Psychometrics
Peer reviewedEngram, Barbara E.; Vandergoot, David – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1978
Assessed correspondence between the Carkhuff and the Truax scales for empathy. Undergraduates responded to nine simulated client statements. An overall correlation of .89 was found. Interrater reliabilities for both scales were high. Degree of correspondence between scales varied with the content-affect characteristics of the simulated client…
Descriptors: Behavior Patterns, Correlation, Counseling, Empathy
Peer reviewedYates, Judith – Journal of Economic Education, 1981
Asserts that tests of student performance in economics courses on the college level do not necessarily enable educators to infer anything about what students have learned or the manner in which they have learned it. Suggests that economics instruction be tailored to the individual, allowing for different learning styles. (Author/DB)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Economics, Economics Education, Educational Assessment
Peer reviewedZimmerman, Donald W.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Education, 1981
Reliability coefficients of linear combinations of observed scores have anomalous properties which have led to difficulties in the investigation of difference scores and gain scores in test theory. Discrepancies between classical results and correct results obtained from more general formulas, which allow for correlated errors, are examined…
Descriptors: Error of Measurement, Mathematical Formulas, Mathematical Models, Scores
Peer reviewedMartin, Felix – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1979
The study involving 145 students (5-13 years old) referred for psychological evaluation explored the consequences of retesting upon student placement and the changes in test results. (SBH)
Descriptors: Elementary Education, Exceptional Child Research, Handicapped Children, Intelligence Tests
Peer reviewedBarling, Julian – Child Development, 1979
A total of 309 children were divided into eight groups on the basis of their Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test scores. The Nowicki-Strickland Locus of Control (LOC) Scale and the Children's Psychological Conservatism Scale were administered. Findings indicate a curvilinear relationship between verbal ability and the reliability of the LOC scale. (RH)
Descriptors: Ambiguity, Attitude Measures, Children, Foreign Countries
