Members and nonmembers of the punk subculture in Los Angeles, California, identified musical bands as being punk or nonpunk and commented on punk culture themes. Results indicated the existence of a private code that expresses the punk style and focal concerns (including fear), and distinguishes punk from the mainstream culture. (MJL)

Adults and children three, four, five, and six years of age were asked to complete statements by choosing a word from the following word pair alternatives: metaphorical/literal, literal/anomalous, and metaphorical/anomalous. A categorization task was used to determine how subjects viewed relationships among items. (Author/RH)

Studied interaction styles of premarital couples (N=148) and developed a typology of couple interaction at two points in time before marriage. Results showed only 7 percent of the couples had the same type of interaction at the two testings, supporting the hypothesis that premarital relationships are fluid. (WAS)

Classifies authoring languages for computer assisted instructional lessons according to a taxonomy based on the hierarchy commonly used for computer languages--the lowest level being the code used by the machine itself and higher levels successively more removed from the machine language. Three experiments were conducted to examine normal preschool and retarded children's use of similarity relations (two items go together because overall they are the most similar in a given set of stimuli) or dimensional relations (two items go together because they are the same size) as a predominant basis for classification. Investigated hand preference using a questionnaire. Respondents were divided into: right-handers (N=523), left-handers (N=412), and impossible to classify (N=42). Items were subjected to a cluster analysis. Results show a clear grouping of items for left-handers and a vaguely similar grouping for right-handers, characterized by the muscle groups…
