Braun, Derek C.; Gormally, Cara; Clark, M. Diane – CBE - Life Sciences Education, 2017
Disabled individuals, women, and individuals from cultural/ethnic minorities continue to be underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Research has shown that mentoring improves retention for underrepresented individuals. However, existing mentoring surveys were developed to assess the majority population, not…

Elsborg, P.; Wikman, J. M.; Nielsen, G.; Tolver, A.; Elbe, A.-M. – Measurement in Physical Education and Exercise Science, 2017
The present study describes the development and validation of an instrument to measure volition in the exercise context. Volition describes an individual's self-regulatory mental processes that are responsible for taking and maintaining a desirable action (e.g., exercising regularly). Schoen, Sarah A.; Miller, Lucy J.; Sullivan, Jillian – Journal of Intellectual & Developmental Disability, 2017
Background: Sensory irregularities are commonly seen across developmental and intellectual disability groups. Identifying patterns of dysfunction within these clinical groups facilitates the development of appropriate intervention strategies. Thus, we evaluated the psychometric properties of the new Sensory Processing (SP) Scale Inventory rating…

Lin, Yi-Ching – ProQuest LLC, 2017
The increased concern of declining STEM candidates could negatively impact the U.S. economy (Kelic & Zagnoel, 2009; Maltese & Tai, 2010). Previous studies suggest that the gap between the supply of STEM students in higher education and workface demand is not reflected merely in the number of STEM graduates but instead in the number of…

Background: The Behaviour Problems Inventory-Short Form (BPI-S) is a spin-off of the BPI-01 that was empirically developed from a large BPI-01 data set. In this study, the reliability and factorial validity of the BPI-S was investigated for the first time on newly collected data from adults with intellectual disabilities. Methods: The sample…

Cornick, Jessica E. – Measurement in Physical Education and Exercise Science, 2015
The current study utilized exercise self-efficacy ratings from undergraduate students to assess the factor structure of the Self-Efficacy to Regulate Exercise Scale (Bandura, 1997, 2006). An exploratory factor analysis (n = 759) indicated a two-factor model solution and three separate confirmatory factor analyses (n = 1,798) supported this…

Kagee, Ashraf; Coetzee, Bronwyne; Saal, Wylene; Nel, Adriaan – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2015
We administered the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) to 101 adults receiving HIV treatment. Exploratory factor analysis yielded a single anxiety factor that accounted for 68.7% of the variance in the data. A single score may be used to indicate the overall level of anxiety of individuals receiving HIV treatment in South Africa.

Lancaster, Steven L.; Melka, Stephen E.; Klein, Keith P.; Rodriguez, Benjamin F. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2015
The current study examined the convergent validity and factor structure of the State-Trait Inventory of Cognitive and Somatic Anxiety in a sample of African Americans and European Americans. Validity analyses revealed similar associations; however, the factor analysis failed to support the original factor structure and factorial variance was…

Shen, Jianping; Ma, Xin; Cooley, Van E.; Burt, Walter L. – Journal of School Leadership, 2016
We collected data from 691 teachers from 139 schools in Michigan to validate the instrument titled Data-informed Decision-making on High-impact Strategies, designed based on Marzano's (2003) 11 high-impact strategies. Results of confirmatory factor analysis strongly supported the 11-factor model as the most valid approach to measure teachers'…

Ever since the classic research of Nicholls (1976) and others, effort has been recognized as a double-edged sword: while it might enhance achievement, it undermines academic self-concept (ASC). However, there has not been a thorough evaluation of the longitudinal reciprocal effects of effort, ASC, and achievement, in the context of modern…

Sekercioglu, Güçlü – International Online Journal of Education and Teaching, 2018
An empirical evidence for independent samples of a population regarding measurement invariance implies that factor structure of a measurement tool is equal across these samples; in other words, it measures the intended psychological trait within the same structure. In this case, the evidence of construct validity would be strengthened within the…
