Measured the relationship between self-concept and college satisfaction among younger and older college students. Used Index of Adjustment and Values, and College Student Questionnaires Part 2. Investigated the influence of vertical, horizontal, and diagonal symmetry on recognition memory in preschool, kindergarten, and second-grade children. The influence of contour was also investigated. Children were trained to attend to axes of symmetry in order to improve performance on a memory task. (Author/DB)

Examined the nature and extent of sexual harassment for women (N=439) graduates from a college from 1945-1980. Responses to a questionnaire indicated that less than 40 percent of the participants had experienced behaviors relating to sexual harassment. Suggests response strategies to harassment. (RC)

Administered three self-concept instruments to 374 students in grades 7, 9, and 11. By using total scores as well as subscale scores, indications were obtained of global self-concept as well as perceptions of various dimensions of self. Data indicated significant sex, race, grade level, and social class differences. (RC)

Explored patterns of marital complaints in a sample of 209 divorcing men and women. Used two codes of complaints. Results indicated that marital complaints varied over time and by sex, education, social class, length of marriage, and income. Investigates developmental differences in the effects of context on ongoing word recognition under conditions that placed greater demands on the readers' comprehension/memory capacity than had been the case in prior studies and examines the generality of these prior findings. (HOD)

Triadic interactions between mother, preschool-age first-born, and 14-month-old second-born siblings were studied in 40 families as part of a longitudinal study using home observations. Interaction between mother and second-born exerted an important influence on the behavior of the first-born. (Author/RH)

Data on correspondence students (N=316) were collected through a student data sheet; data about traditional university students was taken from a school survey. Comparisons on all variables resulted in significant differences between correspondence and traditional school populations as to age, school level, sex, and marital status. (RC)

Reports results of several studies designed to ascertain how adolescents treat each other and how teachers treat adolescents in the high school. Compared cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses in a national sample of women widowed in mid-life. Longitudinal comparisons failed to demonstrate a significant decline in income or financial well-being upon the death of spouses. Investigated the influence of methodological variables on the performance of older adults. Contrary to expectation, communication performances with non-peers required less time and fewer utterances than with peers. Construct organization was inferred from subjects' responses to a specially modified implication grid. Both developmental predictions and the validity of grid measures received excellent support from the analysis of children's theories of their peers as a function of their own age, sex and verbal intelligence.
