Peer reviewedNagy, Philip; Drost, Dale – Alberta Journal of Educational Research, 1983
Reports results of a comparison of correlational and multidimensional scaling techniques as tools for analyzing the perceptions of three groups of mathematics teachers (at high school, vocational school, and university levels) of the relative importance of curricular objectives. Discusses the relationship of the two analyses and the implications…

Peer reviewedNichta, Lawrence J., Jr.; And Others – Psychology in the Schools, 1982
Evaluated the Screening Test of Academic Readiness (STAR) using a sample of 28 third graders. The third graders' scores on the Peabody Individual Achievement Test were correlated with their total STAR scores from prekindergarten testing. Results showed the STAR is a useful instrument for predicting third grade achievement. (Author/JAC)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Cognitive Development, Correlation, Elementary Education
Peer reviewedRie, Ellen D.; Rie, Herbert E. – Intelligence, 1979
Reading deficits among elementary-aged learning disabled children with suspected neurocognitive dysfunctions were calculated. The children were grouped according to IQ profiles. Results indicated that the pattern of high verbal-low performance IQs was associated with the least deficiency in reading ; this association was evident as early as second…
Descriptors: Ability Grouping, Cognitive Processes, Correlation, Elementary Education
Nienhuis, L. J. A.; van Weeren, J. – Etudes de Linguistique Appliquee, 1979
Discusses predictive and conceptual validity, reports on two experiments on each type of test validity with relation to language tests, and indicates some problems posed by these two forms of evaluation. (AM)
Descriptors: Correlation, Educational Research, Language Tests, Listening Comprehension
Coker, Homer; And Others – Phi Delta Kappan, 1980
Reports on research that confounds normal expectations concerning the teacher behavior that encourages student achievement and self-concept development. For instance, using praise or rewards and pausing, eliciting, and responding to student questions were negatively correlated to student achievement gains. (IRT)
Descriptors: Competence, Competency Based Teacher Education, Correlation, Elementary Secondary Education
Peer reviewedGlass, Gene V.; Stephens, Beth – Intelligence, 1980
Relationships among Piagetian reasoning assessments and standard measures of intelligence and achievement were determined in 1972 by Stephens, McLaughlin, Miller, and Glass (EJ 055 112). The data were reanalyzed by Humphreys and Parsons in 1979 (EJ 218 642). In reply, Glass and Stephens note fallacies in Humphreys' and Parsons' reasoning.…

Peer reviewedReynolds, Cecil R. – Intelligence, 1980
Raw scores on WISC-R subtests and the verbal, performance, and full scale IQ scales were correlated with age separately for White and Black males and females. The relationship between age and intelligence test performance was constant across race and sex and supports the construct validity of the WISC-R. (Author/RD)
Descriptors: Age Differences, Black Students, Correlation, Elementary Secondary Education
Peer reviewedMarsh, Herbert W.; Cooper, Terri L. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1981
Prior Subject Interest (PSI) predicted student ratings of teaching effectiveness better than any of 15 other student/course/instructor characteristics considered. Instructor self-evaluations of their own teaching effectiveness were also positively correlated with PSI. (Author/RL)
Descriptors: Correlation, Elective Courses, Higher Education, Predictor Variables
Peer reviewedFyans, Leslie J., Jr.; Maehr, Martin L. – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1979
Fifth- through twelfth-grade students completed a causal attribution questionnaire and were asked to choose one of three games to play. Students who attributed their own success on achievement tasks to ability, effort, or luck were more likely to prefer to perform tasks that were compatible with such beliefs. (Author/RD)
Descriptors: Achievement, Age Differences, Attribution Theory, Correlation
Peer reviewedBraskamp, Larry A.; And Others – American Educational Research Journal, 1979
Self-ratings and student ratings of 17 instructors were compared with student achievement on an externally constructed final examination. Instructor self-ratings and student ratings demonstrated good convergent validity during the second semester. Student ratings of the instructor's control of classroom correlated with achievement during the…
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Classroom Techniques, Correlation, Faculty Evaluation
Peer reviewedDent, Clyde W.; Sussman, Steve Y.; Stacy, Alan W. – Evaluation Review, 1997
Differences between means, variance, and correlation parameter estimates from a full school sample and samples restricted by parental consent were studied with 1,609 students at continuation high schools and 1,192 at traditional high schools. Sample bias due to consent policies may not be a substantive problem, especially if a telephone consent…
Descriptors: Correlation, Drug Use, Estimation (Mathematics), High School Students
Peer reviewedHyde, Merv B.; Power, Desmond J. – American Annals of the Deaf, 1996
This study compared teachers' ratings of the speech intelligibility and receptive communication skills of 15 severely deaf and 15 profoundly deaf students using five methods of communication; and students' scores on tests of these receptive communication methods. Teachers' ratings generally were lower than test scores, with low correlations…

Peer reviewedNiyonsenga, Theophile; Bizimana, Bernard – Library & Information Science Research, 1996
Discussion of library use and user satisfaction focuses on two measures, one based on weighted data and the second based on factor analysis. These measures were studied for their interrelationship and were used to evaluate library services at the National University of Rwanda (Africa). (LRW)
Descriptors: Academic Libraries, Correlation, Evaluation Methods, Factor Analysis
Peer reviewedBeasley, Robert E.; Waugh, Michael E. – Journal of Research on Computing in Education, 1996
Describes a study of 61 undergraduates that investigated the effects of hypermedia content-structure focusing on learner's structural knowledge acquisition, retention, and disorientation. Use of a Completely Randomized Multivariate Analysis of Variance design for hypothesis testing is explained and implications for hypermedia design are discussed.…
