Peer reviewedCarroll, John B. – Intelligence, 1988
Despite certain limitations, factor analysis aids in the identification and characterization of cognitive processes. Variables manipulated for this purpose must be well constructed psychometrically, and it is desirable to dissect tasks into hypothesized components and to use factor analysis in conjunction with other techniques. Well-known…

Peer reviewedWatson, Charles G.; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
Performed factor analyses of 100 alcoholics' reports of the effects that they experience after alcohol consumption. Five factors emerged: Hangover, Euphoria, Flushing, Seizures, and Sleepiness. These factors may be helpful in assessing theories on the etiology of alcoholism and in studies of ethanol's effects on subsets of alcohol abusers. (BH)

Hierarchical Analytic Methods That Yield Different Perspectives on Dynamics: Aids to Interpretation.
McClain, Andrew L. – 1995
First- and higher-order factor analyses are explained from a conceptual rather than a mathematical perspective. A case is made for performing higher-order factor analysis when factors are theoretically related. Actual scores of 301 children on 24 ability measures are used to demonstrate interpretation of second-order factors using the FORTRAN…

Adams, James M. – 2000
Factor analysis is a statistical method of reducing a set number of variables by finding similarities between them. This paper reviews the potential of factor analysis, focusing on exploratory factor analysis, in research on psychotherapy. Within the field of psychotherapy, the use of factor analysis can be classified into three groups. The first…

Peer reviewedConger, Anthony J.; Lipshitz, Raanan – Psychometrika, 1973
The major goal of this paper was to provide a definition and measure of profile reliability and considered the problem of constructing reliable profile dimensions. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Definitions, Factor Analysis, Psychometrics, Reliability
Peer reviewedHakstian, A. Ralph – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1973
Formulas are presented in this paper for computing scores associated with factors of G, the image covariance matrix, under three conditions. The subject of the paper is restricted to "pure" image analysis. (Author/NE)

Peer reviewedMorris, Charles; Small, Linwood – Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, 1971
Contrasts college students' concepts in 1950 and 1970 about what constitutes the good life." Finds that while both groups do not differ much in their ideals, the 1970 group is less tradition-oriented and about equally divided as to whether present American society is satisfactory. (MB)

Safrit, Margaret J. – Res Quart AAHPER, 1969
The factor pattern of selected sports skills performed by subjects above average in skill was similar in many respects to the factor pattern for a sample which included a wide range of skills. The primary difference lay in the clustering of overarm skills which appeared in the above-average factor pattern. (CK)
