Nevels, Klaas – Psychometrika, 1979
A simplified procedure for obtaining a weighted procrustes factor analysis rotation is presented in this brief note. Implications are discussed. (See also EJ 180 443). (JKS)

Dziuban, Charles D.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
The distributional characteristics of Kaiser's Measure of Sampling Adequacy (MSA) were investigated in sample matrices generated from multivariate normal populations of specified correlation levels. Systematic variation of sample size and number of variables revealed the overall MSA to be most influenced by the number of variables. (Author/JKS)

Cascio, Wayne F. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1976
The stability of factor structure of an instrument measuring managerial attitudes toward blacks in the working environment was investigated. Results indicated that the factor structure did not remain invariant over administrations to three different samples of managers. The implications for the psychological measurement of attitudes are discussed.…

Bartsch, Thomas W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1976
One group of subjects responded to an anxiety battery according to their general feelings and then according to their feeling under anxiety-related simulations. A control group received no special instructions. Analysis of variance of factor scores indicated that simulations altered level of state anxiety but not trait anxiety. (Author/JKS)

Carlson, Jerry S.; Wiedl, Karl Heinz – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1976
Measures of concrete operational thought and the Raven's Coloured Progressive Matrices were factor analyzed for a sample of primary students. Results indicated that primarily perceptual abilities are required for solution of the Piagetian tests, although abstract reasoning is involved in the solution of matrices and in conservation of substance…

Pollane, Leonard P.; Schnittjer, Carl J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
Analytical comparisons are made of four commonly available packaged computer programs which perform principal-axis factor analysis. The four programs: Statistical Analysis System, Data-Text, Biomedical Computer Programs, and the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences were compared by running each program with the same data set. (Author/JKS)

Trendafilov, Nickolay T. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1996
An iterative process is proposed for obtaining an orthogonal simple structure solution. At each iteration, a target matrix is constructed such that the relative contributions of the target majorize the original ones, factor by factor. The convergence of the procedure is proven, and the algorithm is illustrated. (SLD)

Andrich, David; Luo, Guanzhong – Journal of Applied Measurement, 2003
Developed a method for conditional pairwise estimation in the Rasch model for ordered response categories using principal components analysis and evaluated the procedure through a simulation study. Results show that the quality of the estimates is excellent. (SLD)

Levin, Richard – Omega: Journal of Death and Dying, 1990
Administered Death Anxiety Scale (DAS) and Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) to 105 individuals. Factor analysis of DAS revealed general factor accounting for 29 percent of extracted variance. First-order factors were also important in factor solution. Pattern of MMPI-DAS correlation suggests that confounding of factors greatly…

Kiers, Henk A. L.; ten Berge, Jos M. F. – Psychometrika, 1989
Two alternating least squares algorithms are presented for the simultaneous components analysis method of R. E. Millsap and W. Meredith (1988). These methods, one for small data sets and one for large data sets, can indicate whether or not a global optimum for the problem has been attained. (SLD)

Kaplan, David – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1989
The power of the likelihood ratio test in multiple group confirmatory factor analysis under partial measurement invariance was studied in a population study with a six-variable, two-factor model where a specification error existed for one group. Results are discussed in terms of strategies of multiple group modeling. (SLD)

van der Heijden, Peter G. M.; Worsley, Keith J. – Psychometrika, 1988
With reference to the authors' previous paper (1985), it is proposed that loglinear analysis can be used to detect interactions in a multiway contingency table and explore the form of these interactions with correspondence analysis. Correspondence analysis assists in finding a model with restrictions on the interaction parameters. (TJH)

Keith, Timothy Z.; And Others – Journal of School Psychology, 1988
Studied whether Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale: Fourth Edition corresponds to theory that guided its construction, using first-order confirmatory factor analysis with entire standardization sample and three age groups. Results generally support the four factors as reflecting the underlying structure of the new Binet, but were less supportive of…

van Schuur, Wijbrandt H.; Kiers, Henk A. L. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1994
The identification of two factors when one factor is expected is an artifact caused by using factor analysis on data that would be more appropriately analyzed with a unidimensional unfolding model. A numerical illustration is given, and ways to determine whether data conform to the unidimensional unfolding model are reviewed. (SLD)

Kiers, Henk A. L. – Psychometrika, 1994
A class of oblique rotation procedures is proposed to rotate a pattern matrix so that it optimally resembles a matrix that has an exact simple pattern. It is demonstrated that the method can recover relatively complex simple structures where other simple structure rotation techniques fail. (SLD)
